Expresso S scooter

Does anyone know anything about the Expresso S electric moped/scooter. I see Target even sells this scooter online....so perhaps it is fairly reliable. Just wondering about specs and quality and how it compares to the x-treme xb500 and xb508.

The only advantage may be better customer service from a larger retailer like Target.

Seems there are 2 different Expresso S scooters,

The Expresso is 36 volt....and the newer Expresso S is the 48 volt model. Both have the Panasonic batteries and are similar in appearance. I've seen them at several scooter websites....etc. But what I want to know is how the Expresso S might compare in reality to the xtreme xb500/xb508...since these are similar and all 48 volts. Course the Expresso S and the xb500 are the two with 500 watt motors. Regardless, the Expresso S costs much more no matter where they are listed.

I'll do some checking tonight, when friends in China are on. They do have different motors you know. Expresso has brushes, and the X Treme is Brushless.

Thanks Gman. However, I do believe that only the 36 volt Expresso may have brushes. I believe the
Expresso "S" (new 48 volt model) which is the one I really am looking at is brushless...just like the xtremes.

i own the new 2007 48 volt 500 watt model

its looks were totally modified in color and dressings including all new parts but problem has come up in it

controller and seat and bucket were stolen recently and now i need someone who really knows
what color wires from 6 pin harness to connect to what color wires on controller that i now have but this one has no plugs on it so i am forced to splice wires together now.
can anyone help me who really knows this wire system or atleast give me a diagram of a 48 volt 500 watt system?
qelectric and rad2go does not have diagrams.
i would be very grateful for any help .

My Expresso S has been in daily use for over year & a half.Still all original. Except the batt. that were 14 amps.Climbs much better than the X-treme 600.The whole design not as good.Front wheel does not lock.Pedals are lower . Stock tires included SLIME or something similar. Rear tire splashes lots of water so liquid tape had to be used for water resist.Chargers work better ventilated by a fan.Direct 48 volts for lights ,horn ,etc.Support sucks .Bought thru LARGO SCOOTERS-QElectric .The connections are confusing on the three prone thick wires because the system uses on double 24 volts chargers .The lower voltage -Signal- operation wire colors are easy to hook-up.It seems to me Qelectric cares more about proprietary rights than its costumers' benefit.

While waiting impatiently for my XM-3500Li, I still have my Expresso S. I named it "Blitzschneke." I have decals of a snail over a lightning bolt on the front.

I got over two years of regular use from it, most of the time without problems. The bike came with an awkward setup of two (2) chargers, which fed into a single wire to the bike. This Y-harness was really sloppy, put together with vinyl electrical tape. One of these chargers went out on me after a month or so. I bought a Soniel charger, and noticed an immediate improvement in power and range. (The Soniel performs a desulfating cycle.) A few months ago, my rear tire blew out, so I replaced both tires. Not easy to find the right size, but they are available. (If anyone ever needs the info, I'll look it up.) All four 14 Ah batteries (they are not Panasonic) still show good voltage and amperage. Riding it mainly for flat, 6-mile round-trips, and recharging immediately after, seems to have helped the batteries.

It's been going through a series of electrical problems, however, and the Expresso is not presently functional. In the most recent installment, the motor was cutting in and out (when it ran at all) several times a second. Today, when I sat down on it (with its stand down and rear wheel off the ground) to see what tricks it was up to, I turned the key on, then slowly twisted the throttle. There was a popping sound like a wire blowing out, coming, I think, from behind me. I may have the local Zap dealer take another look at it. They fixed an odd half-speed problem earlier, and not too expensively.

IMHO, the Expresso is physically a tough enough little bike, but is wired very poorly. But it cost only $1,000, delivered.

It is not the wiring but the design. Rear wheel lacks a mud guard and usually one of the three thick wires' connector going to hub (yellow 'black or red) gets moisture and oxidation cooks the plastic cover and the fact that it lacks a dc-dc converter so any accessory problem is a major disaster .Yeah mine didn't have Panasonic but DMZ batteries one of them blew -A/C turned off and Florida 92 degrees did the trick- though even after shunt mod neither controller nor hub overheat too much, a difference of my xb600 that had to undergo a controller fan mod.

I have an expresso s scooter, and the motor went out at the bottom of the hill after coasting, didnt respond to the throttle, electricity is still on, and the motor made a whomping noise sounded like a flat tire...? after turning the the wheel i heard a clunk clunk sound in the motor, no idea what it is, thought it might be the bearings but after looking at them and turning them by hand, I thought maybe not.??? so I have no idea what is wrong with it,,, but I did find out the motor is sold in another scooter with the exact same model number as a 350 watt motor,,,, so Im thinking maybe they just put a 500 watt controller on it? I called them they said mail it back to them,,,, if its still under warranty, but now its not under warranty if its a 2 mth warranty... as the rep said, so Im figuring I would be just throwing my money away and the motor too if i sent it back. If you find any repair manual or schematics let me know Im searching too,,, the thing only lasted less than 2 mths... i emailed them and they never responded, so i called and now its past 2 mths,, but i figured its always the customers fault... so forget that// lol

I also have a Soniel charger. Very expensive little bugger for 48V SLA setup. However it came with an XLR plug and I had to put a three prong monitor style plug on it to make it work with my old ESV SL 700 Lion scooter. I am curious to know if my Soniel charger would work with my new XB 700 Li lithium ion batteries.

I have 2 Expresso S scooters. I bought as a pair. They are in excellent condtion.

But I was really miffed when I found out they don't make them anymore and support is nil. None the less, I am determine to get them running. I managed to find 12v 12ah battries for $15.00 each, had to buy 10 at a time. So I put together a battery pack, and put it in the first scooter.

Everything worked fine. I went in the alley cranked it up and got up to 10mph, and that is as fast as it will go.
So I swap the battery pack.(only have one pack, can't find another).
Now theother scooter has a loose throttle handle. I have to hold it on, with the spring in between, anyway that scoot will do 20mph.

So 2 problems are.
One scoot that will only go up to 10mph.

And the other is how do I get the throttle handle to stay on?
Can I buy a compatiable model?

I looked in vain for a manual, service website. Nobody seems to support these anymore. I did notice qelectric still seems to selling the expresso.

I was also wondering if there is another ebike with the same componets?
So I could just swap them out.

I will sell them for what I got in them, if you need good parts bikes.

My plan is to fix them up and SELL. Or if find compatiable parts keep. I like the look of them. Please help.

The specs for the Expresso look to be the same as the Gelato. Does anyone know the difference? Another Gelato owner had the same 10mph problem too. I haven't heard anything about the resolution other than Qelectric was sending him a new controller.

Since I have 2 scots, I am going to swap controllers. I let you know how it goes. I will try to get some pics too. For the guy who was trying to figure out how to wire a new controller. I do have another question.

The throttle, is it 48v or just a 5omh unit?
Can I just buy one from scooterparts.com?
That was my back up plan, switching out the throttle.
Since it is harder to switch out throttles then controllers.

It appears that electricscooterparts.com does have a throttle for the experesso. I don't know if it is 48v or 5ohms.

The Gelato has the batteries in a case under the seat tha is shaped like a leaning upside down "L" with a handle on the bottom (top?) part. Is the Expresso setup the same way? The controller in my scooter completely unmarked. I'm guessing that when it goes out I'll have to rewire the entire thing.

As I was going to swap out controllers on the scoot that would only go 10mph. I notice the gray wires were conneted. Having read somewhere about grey wires, I disconneted them, reroad the bike, and glory be, 23mph. Me a happy boy. Thanks for the tips.

Now I need to get a throttle for the other scoot. I look up and they offer with hall effect and with out. Which one do I order.

Side note: I just bought a Panterra 750watt retro scoot. I got it up to 27mph. Only prob in PA, will need moped plates, no pedals attached. Has anyone got an ebike moped plates in PA.

Got the throttle in and worked first time. Sometime you get lucky. So now both Expresso's are working. Now I am lacking one battery box. I finally got an email from MR WANG, and he says no got any. If you don't know about MR. Wang, he has a bunch of websites selling off the rest of his inventory of discontinued expresso's. So any leads for a battery box. If you got a dead expresso, do you want to sell some parts. Thanks for your help, Poe

China wheel hub no move.

Okay guys you have been a good help so far. I got a conversion kit from china. Put it all together, and the wheel would not move. Just lock in place, when I hit the thumb throttle. So I convince the vendor that it is the controller and he sends me a new one. Now when I hit the throttle it does nothing. I spin the wheel and hit the throttle and nothing. So I disconnect everything and hook up the yellow and green wire up to the battery pack with jumpers, and apply power, the wheel jumps and moves, I turn power back off quick. So guys, is it the controller or hall effect sensors? Thanks in advance. Poe

Does the Expresso's battery box have a slanted upside down "L" shape? Did yours break? Can it be repaired? The Gelato has one made out of the thinnest plastic. When it breakes I'm going to make a rack for the batteries. You may want to think about doing the same thing.
and equivalent one could be made out of plexiglass with a little cuting, glueing, and screwing.

Getting the weird angle right will be the hardest part.

The battery box is 11"x11"x5"on the low side and 6" on the high side. I have no problem assembling a box.Since I do have 1 battery box My problem is I can not get it to look like the orignal battery box. Since both scoots are obselete and working good, I am going to sell them. And without an orginal looking battery box it will take the value down. Surely someone is selling parts for these scoots somewhere. Maybe I should start a parts yard or used Qelectrics, lol.

Hello,
I realize this forum isn't current but can't find info or guidance anywhere else, so I'm hoping someone drops by :)

My daughter has the Expresso S, probably not more than 100 miles on it. It will take a charge - both of the battery packs <?> have the alternating green light and when we turn the ignition, the gauge goes to "F" and the "power" and "Expresso" logo lights go on.

We have it up on the stand and when we turn the accelerator, the back wheel will rotate sluggishly 3 or 4 times, then die out. It'll do this a few times then upon turning the accelerator the 4th or 5th time, nothing happens at all.

Is it something that can be repaired at a relatively low cost or should we just offer it up for parts?

Any help is appreciated,

check on the batt with a multimeter.The bike's electronics is way much better than tha xb-600.I just got ping battery pack straight from Shangai China ( 15 Ah 60 volts) .Almost as much as the bike cost me brand new 5 years ago But the Expresso S deserves it. Bocca al lupo.
