Matra Pro,

did you ever manage to unlock the speed, at least to go from 25 to 32km/h? I would be happy with that,

Cheers,

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Hello Matra Pro, I have been looking around everywhere for a bike shop that can do the firmware upgrade. Beside the swiss shop (techbikes), it looks like bike dealers are not so keen on using any kind of computer equipment in their workshops. I am still stuck with the V3.8 and would love to be able to use the BIB to do the upgrade. Unfortunately, the link you had provided in an earlier post does not lead to any file. Is there any other way to get hold of this software + latest firmware? Tkx, FastMax

Why would you like to do an upgrade? I think you can unblock the bike with the 3.8 version, later one you can't.
Originally my Matra dealer unblocked it, but then Matra changed the controller with a 4.1 version and you cannot unlock it any more. Extremely annoying, so I'm putting my bike on the block. If somebody wants a Matra i Step Cross http://www.steves-pedelec.de/pdfs/MatraCross_Web4.3.pdf in the south of France.

Hello FastMax,

I'm interested in having the old firmware !!

Where are you in Switzerland? I'm in Geneva. Maybe we can make an exchange??
How used is your battery ?

@MatraPro, where is located the firmware? In the battery pack or in the command console ?

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

OK, I am confused. My bike is a TREK T500+. I live in Belgium.

The controller shows Rev3.8 when I turn it on. I have tried to do the 3773 tick but without success. I understood from the previous msg in this thread that using the BIB might be the way forward to remove the limitation - which can be done by the techbike dealer but I am not located in Switzerland and cannot find anyone here in Belgium to do the trick.

I also understood that some vibration issues are resolved with the new firmware versions. Actually my priority is to get rid of the 25km/h limit. if I skip the firmware upgrade, it is fine for me. In anycase, it would be fun to play with the BIB software.

I found a TREK-RIDE+ dealer manual linking to www.dexter.com to get the software: http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/1885296/ride-plus-dealer-information-2-9-meg?dn=y
but even with this information the belgian dealers seem to be very reluctant to use any PC in their workshop - it is more a problem of computer knowledge. also no answer from the BionX importer.

Thanks for your help!

Hey Fastmax,

I am in Belgium too... are you french speaking or vlaams? Your name makes me think french :-) so, if french we can better talk english because my technical french is not so good :-)

Just bought my bionx (version 3.8). I don't know yet if it works ok but I know that there is an option on mine where I can put (50km/h) but I didn't feel it my first testride....

I am also curious about playing with the settings on the computer.

hi,

I am belgian too (Ghent area), riding a trek 500+ running version 4.4.
Been trying all kind of codes to get rid of the speed limit, but no luck so far.
I had an offer to buy a new bionx console without speed limit from a website in the US. The problem is that you are never sure that this will work with the controller on your bike.

kr,
Trekman.

Trekman,

I don't think is just a code or the console, you also need to program the wheel; and you need the BIBOX to do it, if you find somebody in Belgium (A BionX dealer for example) that has it let me know; have a couple of Kits I would like to modify,

Cheers,

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

i know someone who has a box to connect between the console and the controller. This box then connects to a PC. i suppose this is a bibox. but he does not know how to remove the speed limit.

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Anybody did some research at the parameters?
attached is a screenshot of the extended interface (w. the registry mod)

Could there be more parameters in EPS Bike Interface" - Properties to unlock more config points?
phps anybody do have some debugging skills (the .exe files are compressed so more registry-entrys should be searched via debugging on runtime)

Also i found some interesting registry keys too:

Dealer EPS:

OEM design:
K = KTM
M = Matra
T = TREK (with presets, but not working on my Austrian KTM 4.6)
???

EADII:
?? what to do with these?
Major - original:8

Minor - original:0

Revision - original:6

Euro Add-in:
?? what to do with these?
EuroViewON - original: 0

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Hi Automated,

Is this the settings you see in the BIBox ?
I tried putting a console without speed limit in my Matra/BionX NiMH 250W,
it works great! I could feel assistance up to 35km/h instead of annoying 25km/H, the only concern is weather the console is calibrated for LiMn and could en-up damaging the Batteries,
although I imaging that the BMS in the batteries would avoid that. Does anybody know how to get a BiBox?
or problems with replacing the console?

This is wat you get after doing the registry trick described in a later post.

I never tryed to change batt-type, but it is there to select, also voltages and so on.
It would be nice to find someone who has skills in changing parameters, also to get a registry-dump with all parameters......

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Dear People,

My name is Paul from Bali and i just bought a Trek Valencia +, Im using a console for revision 4.7 and have been trying to add more speed limit to 32 km/h but always failed. Right now im still at limit 25km/h.

I have used 3 methods which failed terribly.

1. Entering a smaller wheel size should make the BionX turn the wheel faster to achieve the maximum perimeter speed of 32kmh.

I have not adequately tested this theory because it is still too cold here for riding. However, my theory is as follows:

1) Determine your wheel size and circumference (26" - 2075mm)
2) Enter a circumference equal to the kilometre-to-mile conversion factor (2075 x .62 = 1281mm)
3) Set the console units to miles
4) Pretend the console is in kilometres

The speedometer and odometer will indicate miles but should be equivalent to kilometres. Your max speed will theoretically be 52kmh, which should effectively remove the limit. However, the thing can really only push you up to about 36 or 38 kmh on the flat at best I think.

2.Eliminating the 25 km/h speed limit can be managed in two steps. In Rev 4.0 you can't eliminate the speed limit by setting Menu # 3773 to off. You can't do this in the late 2009 Rev 4 kits. So here's what you do:

1.) Divide the millimeter circumference of your motored wheel by 1.6 and enter this number into Menu# 3771. It automatically goes into #2005. 2.) Change mph to km in Menu #2001. The console units will read km but the units will now be in mph, ave. mph and miles and the bike will now assist up to 30 mph. The system thinks you're going 30 km/h but you will be going 30 mph and the console will read 30. Unfortunately you will not be able to get the bike to read actual km/h if you set #2001 to mph.Menue #2002 should be no higher than 20, and regen mode 4 should not be used or the motor will over-heat. In both models, PL350 and PL500 set Menue #1234 to zero to prevent the motor from cutting out on long hills.

3. Last one is 3773: max speed
3775: throttle max speed

Please help me, and im sorry for my bad English :(

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Hi,
@m17x: My Diamant Zouma Sport, console rev. 5.2 does not allow circumference smaller than 2109 mm. Bad luck.

Does anybody know which component is checking my input (console, batterie-computer, motor)- the #3773 rsp. the circumference.

May I use another console to enter circumference less than 2109 mm?

Is there a code for switching to US-limits?

Greetings - Green12

Is the EPS dealer software somewhere available to just to look what kind software is that? I am very interested in that, and I am willing to get the BIB box.

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

A vew things about speed limitor and Trek bikes:

Speed limitor from Trek bikes are locked in controller and wheel. So if you get your hands on a unlimited controller it still does not go faster then 25 Km/h.
Wheelsize will do just a bit but don't expect miracles. Changing to Miles does not help you too, the system counts in Km/h even if changed to Miles.
Codes are locked so programming will not work either. Even German software (Diamant or Villiger) can't be used because the limit is rooted inside the system and can't be overruled with normal dealer software.

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Wrong - wrong.

I just last week changed from my Trek bike the speed limit to 45 km/h with BIBOX/Cheat Engine. So it's doable. I will go now little over 30 km/h with assist level 4. But I'm heavy and tall biker. Someone skinier may go faster.

That´s correct, with non Trek software it is possible. I was more revering to all questions about speed limiter in this topic without cheating the system.

Nice to know that it can be done.
Is what you call Bibox\Cheat engine special software loaded in the standard dealer bibox, or is it something else.

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

OK. I was able to download the dealer software from QBP. It allows for connection of the system to my PC and allows me to view details of the system and download/install updates from bionx. However, it doesn't provide any configuration beyond the items that Bionx allows one to configure. It certainly doesn't look anything like the screenshot posted by automated. The EPS interface software must be something entirely different? Still hoping to find a copy of that, someone somewhere must have it.

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Hi

My name is Daan and I'm located in The Netherlands.

I noticed your post in this forum about using BiBox/Cheat Engine to change the maximum
speed limitation on a Trek bike.

I've tried this with a bike mechanic at an authorized Trek dealer.
However we did not succeed.

Could you explain how you searched for the correct bbi memory addresses in Cheat Engine ?

Please note I understand the concept of Cheat Engine, just wonder how to find the right
memory address(es) to change the speed limit. Did you search for "25.0" using Scan Type=Exact Value
and Value Type=Float like I did ?
And did you only change a single address value or multiple (like me 3)? (A screendump from Cheat Engine would help a lot).

Also since there is no refresh functionality in the bbi software is there any way to check the new
value after changing the value(s) in PC memory ? (Printing ?)

Do I need to change the value in memory every time the bike is hooked up to the bibox in order to
prevent the custom speed limit to be automatically overwritten by the default value (25.0) when
shutting down the system?

Thanks, appreciate your help.

Daan

Hi Daan, I had the chance to be one of the first to hack around on the dealer-software in a german community.
We made some modifications to the dealer-software - so stumbling around with cheat engine is not needed anymore, but should work too.
as you are from netherland german language would not be a barrier for you, i quess. - please google for "open-ebike forum". Here you can find an open community with yuite minor restrictions.
We (the community) have done the following:
-Sorting out the Hack with cheat-engine
-Modifying dealer-software to accept modifyed data-files
+-Modifying data-files to open a custom-page
+---Dumping all possible parameters in dealer-software to sort out possible modifications
+----Coding a simple Gui in HTML to modify parameters as: Min/Max-speed, torque amplifyer, Max-Torque and many more.
-Building an independend Can-Interface from scratch to turn off Max-Speed without dealer-interface and dealer-software =common developer board, software as freeware, easy to build

Hello all I am from Belgium and I purchased an Oxford ebike with 250W bionx motor with G2 console. Speed here is limited for maximum 25 km. When I tried to change code 3773 I receive on screen on top 25 and on bottom is blinking HI SPËED and in right bottom corner I,
How can I remove this 25km and eventually what are the next steps?
Anybody who can assist me in this please ? Would appreciate , thanks, a biker from Vlaanderen

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

Hi You need to reprogram the console, a guy in germany sells a mod device http://prochip.de/shop/index.php?page=product&info=44, it worked well for me. It only works with one console unless you ask for a 2 bike version and is a bit more expensive. Which means it will store the serial of your console and will only work with that console.
Once unblocked the maximum speed will depend on your battery, 26 Volts around 32 km/h 36 Volts around 40km/h.

I so very much worth it. the EU Legislation is ludicrous. I think 35 km would be a reasonable limit. I can get up to 40 easily in my "normal" mountain bike.

Re: Removing Bionx 20mph speed limit

You can get a mod device at site prochip.de that unblocks your console. Is the only way with modern updates. 3773 only allow you to see the limit now not to change it. You can get a version for 1, 2 or unlimited number of bikes. I bought one and worked well (I live in Brussels). With a 26v you can expect assistance up to 32 km/H, with a 36v battery up to 40km/h.

End of the 25 Kph wall - BionX is re-born

I posted a review of my Villiger BionX a few years ago and have been quite happy with it - except for the annoying 25 Kph wall I hit every day.

So I am happy to announce that I have been liberated, thanks to Prochip, who make a simple device called the M-Ped to reset the maximum speed of any CanBus BionX system.

See: www.prochip.de/bionx

Within 2 minutes I reset the maximum speed to 32 Kph, which I find perfect for me, and also good for the 250W BionX.

OK, it costs 149 Euros, but I was actually considering buying a North American system for $1500. to get around the 25 Kph limit. (N.A. systems are set to 32 Kph)

For my commute, 32 Kph works perfectly for the gearing and cadence I like to set.

It seems strange but riding at a speed of 30 Kph is quite different than riding at 25 Kph and takes a bit of getting used to. Braking distance is more important, and you approach pedestrians and other riders at a faster speed and need to anticipate better. Part of my ride is also on gravel bike path which is much slipperier at the faster speed. Lastly, the battery life is proportionally shorter, and the actual exercise effort is more.

I am happy and feel quite liberated without that Wall that I came to know and hate.

Note that M-Ped use voids the BionX warranty and comes with a strict legal notice not to break the law. Luckily I ride in Switzerland where the legal pedelec limit is 40 Kph... :)

Well, I find it somewhat strange then that there is no official Bionx solution for use in Switzerland?

The 500W BionX motor is available here with a 40 Kph limit, but otherwise the only thing sold is the standard 250W with the Euro limit of 25 Kph. There are Bosch bikes available with 32 Kph limits, but I don't really like the Bosch drive. I have tried to 40 Kph Stromer and the 40 Kph Bosch and find them a bit scary to ride in city traffic.
