Cool video, looks like you

Cool video, looks like you just had an ice storm there with all the tree debris, hehe.

Cannot See Video

I'm not sure why I cannot see the video. All I see is a rectagular box outline. I click in it, around it, everywhere I can think of to click, but I do not see any video to play... Anyone else with this issue?

The video requires flash 8

The video requires flash 8 or later. And yes, it was shot in oregon right after the biggest windstorm of the decade.

Video

Hi Xyster

Nice Video, it looked mighty cold out there!! boy it sounded it under tyre as well!! its starting to get cold here in the UK, I have been out on the KMX 3 wheeler today and had to back down on speed as over 35mph on these roads it started to feel a little unsafe! ha ha.

Yo are getting some really nice clean video there xyster, what video set-up are you running? also the sound is amazingly clear and crisps I could hear every last sniffle!! (you should be inside with a good book and a warm drink!!)

Holidays soon, I Hope you are all looking forward to it! I certainly am and will be out in force on at least 1 of my 3 rides to try and burn off some of the xmas excess!!

Thanks again for posting the video get ready with your snow chains, I must do a KMX video and If I can try and host it like you have so I can keep the quality high. I have started wearing one of those LED headlight lights under the peak of my helmet as I am low down on the KMX and its about as high as I can get the front light, I run this in tandem with the other front light and a nice bright rear light.

All the best

Thanks knoxie -- patchy ice

Thanks knoxie -- patchy ice and frost was the closest to snow I could find for you :-) My hands were freezing and my tires slipping so I kept the ride short and slow. To answer your video questions: the video and audio was recorded by a Canon S2 IS slung around my neck. The video was encoded for progressive download with the Flash 8 for Mac's video encoder set to ON2 VP6 @ 700kbs. The sniffles were encoded at 96kbs stereo as the Canon records audio in stereo so you guys get to hear each wind-blown gooey wet nostril sniffle separately :-)
Hopefully I won't be needing snow chains or studded bike tires this year :-)
I'd love to see a video of that KMX beast.
After I add the emoli boost pack I'm planning, and all in good fun of course, I'd also like to challenge your modded Puma to a virtual race on video :-)
You've made some awful big claims about that much smaller, wimpy-lookin' motor, isn't it about time to put your camera where your keyboard is? :-)

Have a Merry E-Xmas!

Video Challenge

Hello Xyster

Yeah no problem at all I will do an acceleration video on the BMX from standstill to 36mph which is as fast as it will go in a 20 inch wheel, I will keep the camera on the GPS so you can see the speed increase in real time, I also need to find a quantifiable hill to climb as well, check my blog post in a moment as I have took one of the Pumas apart to check for wear on the gears and motor, its all A1!! the gears look like new.

I have been standing behind the Puma a little as it is just simply an amazing performer, I have tried all the Xlyte variants as Mark at TH stocks them all and there really is no comparison, people take it that I am xlyte bashing, I am not as Marks sells (is trying to sell them) I am just being honest about what happens when I turn the throttle and look at my various meters!! the only real Xlyte in pure performance to bother with in a 26 Inch wheel is what you have, the others just dont cut it in a 26 inch wheel next to geared systems, the X5 is the daddy, although I still think the Puma in a 26 Inch @ 72V will eat it :-) Pumas are predatory animals you know!!

All the best

Cheers

Knoxie

thanks for the info on the video, super good quality :-)

Thanks knoxie. I was trying

Thanks knoxie. I was trying to get your goat a bit so you'd vid some objective, quantitative tests :-) I'll attempt to replicate and record whatever tests you do.
I know you're not clyte bashing, and even if you were, no big deal to me as my ego isn't bound to the power of my motor :-). I don't doubt the Puma might beat the x5. If it wins by a very wide margin, due to the 18lbs less weight, I'd get me one as soon as I could buy one of the modded motors prelaced into a dw 24" wheel. I'd also like to know if the Puma can handle a full 35-40 amps indefinitely without overheating. At 72v35a, the 5304 still has room to handle a lot more. If Justin from ebikes is right, the x5 can handle 50 amps at 100 volts continuously. After I switch over to a more robust battery chemistry in the future, I'd like to open the controller and mod it to provide that 50amps at 92 volts or so. From your excellent descriptions so far, it doesn't sound like the Puma would handle 5000 watts for long, if at all. But with the weight diff, a continuous 35amps at 84 volts or 40 amps at 72 volts may be acceptable to me.

nice vid!

thanks for sharing that xyster,

as always, nice video....
I'm just a bit wondering that you only get a range of ~30miles out of it with that huge battery back.
Afair your batteries are storing an energy amount as great as 2.5kwh?
I'd guess your range to be something arround 50miles^^

Anyway, nice video, nice bike, nice "flash player"......

Cheers

Thanks, Max. I get about 30

Thanks, Max. I get about 30 miles range when going ~35mph, no pedaling, up hills, etc. The 33ah is of course 100% depleted if drawn at 33 amps for one hour. I don't run this pack below 70% DoD or so. Cruising at 20mph with draw of 5-10 amps, the range is more like 60 miles.

Hey Xyster,Knoxie, great vid

Hey Xyster,Knoxie,

great vid - love watching you guys riding your bikes having fun :) although i think knoxie is right you should be by the fire!
is that your neighbourhood xyster? area looks great - i can see why you might be looking into some off road if your living there - where is it?
i will hopefully get my bike together soon so i can help compare figures and get some more video on the forum - i will give my bike a fair bashing in the woods so we can see how well the puma (controller too) are put together.
i'm thinking performance wise it will be practically identical to the bmx which impressed me enough to invest :) so fingers crossed that's what i'll get but in a fs frame capable of some frightening singletrack speed :) keep the footage coming guys - it's my inspiration!!!

Hey Dicanio. No,

Hey Dicanio. No, unfortunately it's not my neighborhood. I love it out in the oregon backwoods and travel there when I can.
I looked at your latest blog post -- gettin' it together I see :-) Very exciting. I also look forward to seeing whatever objective numbers you can measure. Saving 20 lbs of wheel weight sure would be nice -- but before I go switching out my stout x5, I really need to know the modded Puma's max continuous wattage and voltage.

yeh it looks like a real

yeh it looks like a real cool place - i live on the edge of london but i'm really lucky to have a great forest just across the road - ill get some vids up soon as i'm out on the bike :)
yes the bike is slowly coming together although it won't progress much over the christmas period i'm unbelievably loaded up with family days next week. The weight was a big issue for going for the puma - my bike was 32lbs unmodded and with my controller and hub installed its still only 41lbs ish :)
granted there's 20lb of lipo on my back but i am only 140lbs myself so all together 160lbs - should shove me along at a fair old speed - 25% less weight than knoxie on the bmx :)
I will get you some figures and vids up when i can so you can have a good comparison in the new year!!!
Have a good christmas and new year brother Xyster see you on the other side !!!!!

Cool vid, but somethings buggy in the page...

Great vid xyster!

Really viewable even though the cam is hanging off yer neck. And yes, each nostril is clearly audible: I felt like I was right there (eeeeewwww).

I had to paste the source for the flash in the address bar for it to play though... There may be some interference from the external js that the forum software is processing. When I make a page locally on my HD with all the source from the forum page the video plays, so it is related to some of the relative links (which are broken in my local version). DH may be able to fix it. (IE 6.0, flash 9... reinstalled flash today just to check)

Thanks for your posts, they are superb.
