How fast should a 48v 800w scooter go?

Hi,

I have a AER E-800 Scooter as seen here http://aerscooters.com/

The top speed seems limited to 20mph, confirmed with GPS. Even in the manual for the scooter it says that the top speed is 25mph, so it shouldn't be going so slow.

Does anyone else have a 800w 48v scooter that can go faster?

And how much speed could I expect to gain from going to 60v?

Thanks :)

Hi IOcke

I have an Xtreme XB-600 (600 watt) electric bicycle, which was 48 volts, and has been "upgraded" to 60 volts. I goes about 25 mph.

Of course your 800 watt motor could be just limited by the controller to 20 mph, so more voltage might not help.

scottwatson42@comcast sayin
Go to UTUBE look at (1)Video of 1500 watt electric skateboard, Look at (2) Videos of 22500 watt electric skateboard.

To answer the question, tire size and Gear ratio,is the limiting factor, my designs operate at 35 and 45 miles an hour if I am on a race track, for street use we are restricted to 25 miles an hour.

Horsepower lets you climb hills, having Motors with internal fans is a good idea. Most "scooter" are restricted by the amount of amps that the power management system can process and the constant current rating of the electric motor. Happy 4th of July!

I've looked at the controller, here are some pictures of it.

It is limited to 63v by the capacitors, so if I want to go to 60v then I should probably just get a new controller.

Can anyone recommend me a brand of controller? My motor is brushless.

Or, can anyone see any possible modifications I could make to my controller to make it faster?

Re: How fast should a 48v 800w scooter go?

I have a 48V 800W generic Chinese scooter that looks like the Xtreme scooter, and it goes 19mph tested with a GPS system. The manufacturer claims it can go 22mph (35kph), and it feels that fast, but it did not register on the GPS. If the wheel gear is smaller, then the wheel can spin faster and the scooter would go faster, but it would lose torque to climb up hills, so the maximum speed depends. If you want to go faster, you would want to increase the power of the motor and replace the controller.
