Custom builds or home-built electric motorcycles

Build your own? Hire someone to build for you?

... and here's all the parts you won't need

recently we have stripped a motorcycle and took pictures and weighed the parts that came off of it, you may have seen something similar before but here's a look at what came off of the 1989 Suzuki Katana GSX600F and what it weighed

Cooling Hub Motors

As hub motors get made to handle several thousand watts,
they generate more heat. However their surface area and cooling capacity do not appear to be increasing enough. Rarely does one see cooling fins on the hub motors.

Has anybody found nice, effective ways to insure sufficient cooling for these motors?

Upgrade Ideas for X-Treme 500 scooter

I have an x-treme 500 scooter for the past year and its has been running grreat, but with of course some minor problems (fuses, battery, and tires). Now currently i can ride it for a distance of 8 miles cruising or 3 miles at full throttle and my top speed is 15mph, it would go faster and longer if i weighed less I weight about 240lbs.

Now I have been considering on trying to maybe upgrade my scooter. I have read post and google websites, but there has been no idea of what to do first or if its even possible.

Batteries AH watt the?

OK, so I started learning about batteries, and some basics, standard car batteries are about Cranking Amps (bad) we need ones that are about Amp Hours so we need Deep Cycle Batteries, (good). Lead Acid Batteries is what I can afford, so let's talk about those. I plan on using six 12 volt 100 amp hour AH batteries and a 72 volt 100 amp motor.

Why not use a cheaper golf cart motor?

I hope this hasn't been covered already at nauseum, a quick search did not reveal any specific results.

Safety First

OK, I did a search on this forum and found no topics on safety, so here we go.

1. Can building my own EV motorcycle conversion kill me via electric shock?

In my dense mind I am thinking hey I am working with 12v "car" batteries how bad can this be. Then I am thinking hey dummy you will eventually be connecting 6 of these in "series" so the voltage adds up, so now we are talking about 72 volts. Then I remembered reading somewhere that volts zap you and amps kill you so at what point does it get dangerous? What volt / amp combination can hurt a human being?

New build, assistance needed

I am selling a 1998 Mustang base coupe. I hope to receive 2000-2500$ U.S. for it. My intention is to construct an electric vehicle that I can ride for some time as well as advertise the tech. I could then perhaps invest in tools and facilities to produce them on a larger scale. First vehicle would ideally be a scooter, 60mph or so top speed with as much range and longevity as possible. Integrated would be the battery management system and other technologies to improve efficiency. If enough was left over after these installations perhaps an lcd to list stats.

New conversion project:: 87 Honda Elite 80

Hello everyone - I'm new to all this, but I wanted to get some advice and share the details of my spring project. I have a 1987 Honda Elite Scooter, that I have decided to convert to EV for running around town.

I just order a Mars ME-0708 Motor, Kelly 300A Controller package from Cloud Electric, and started pulling the old motor out. Is this a good combination to start?

Next choices are batteries, and how to drive the rear wheel. It appears the engine and transmission are combined in this scooter, I think like Vespas from what I have read here.
