Lost and found images

Greetings archive team,

I have a suggestion that may improve the efficiency of the lost and found system and simultaneously boost the traffic to this board exponentially: let google do the heavy lifting.

all the images can be uploaded to the webserver en-masse, and a directory webpage can be composed as a simple text list with the image filenames. Links to the files can be easily scripted into the page too. The webpage should also include the appropriate meta-tags with content: "Lost and found images from voltage forums" and keywords: "vs4v, voltage, ebikes, images, lost, recovery" etc.

Update the page regularly and add new filenames regularly, link the page to this BB's index page. Make links to the page on every page on this BB (hidden or in your topnav). Drive as much traffic to the page as you can.

Google's bots will index the page and generate thumbnails for the referenced images, even tho the images are not actually displayed in the browser, they just need to be listed by filename and linked in the body of the page.

Most importantly, include a unique keyword referred to in the body of the page like "V4VLF"... as the page continues to be indexed by google, that term will allow visitors to pull up the google image search using just that term and get just the lost and found images.

(If you would like evidence of the effectiveness of this method, search google using two kewords: " people, dancing". The top hit is a nonprofit that used this method. Observe the number of hits registered by google in the upper right of the search results. )

It will not happen instantly, it may take some time for google to index the page(s) and for the page to rise in the rankings. But the more you use the page, the more visitors view the images, the higher the page rises in the ranking and the more traffic this site will get. Most likely people will click on the filename links to randomly view images, but as more traffic grows, people will use google image search to see the thumbnails and find lost images.

It should be much more efficient than creating and posting thumbnails a couple of dozen at a time.

Cheers for all the good work.

Re: Lost and found images

Hi Tyler,
Thanks for the input, that is our plan, as soon as we have adequate space to post them. Rather than wait, we decided to try and get some of them at least posted this way. It is very time consuming doing it this way, but we wanted to try and post some of what have already retrieved, so maybe the owners will see them and add some additional information. The majority of the images have no information to even identify them, and there are 1000s of them. There is even one of a Frog, so who knows what it's related to. What has been posted so far had some information, or a word that may help identify it.
Eventually we hope to catalog them as close as possible to a possible sub forum. Another problem is most of the numbers with the images are duplicated many times with only the number from the Digital Camera used. So a Lost and Found seems like the best way to get started for now, if the owners can add some information, that would really help us locate when and where they were taken, and where they were originally posted.
The group we're working on now contains 446 images, and would require about 50MB of space, where as the thumbnails will only require about 6MB of space. Once the image has been identified, we can latter post it to our Voltage Forum Archive Gallery in a different format along with the information supplied by the owner.

Thanks again for your input, and volunteering to help if needed.

Re: From Our Voltage Forum Archives - 2004 Hill Climb Lost and F

Per Lawrence Rhodes,
It was in San Mateo County off route 35. Down a canyon road. We met at the
bottom and rode up. Todd Kollin had his Mud e Runner. Lenoard Pond had a
modified Vego. Ken Trough was there running it. We met in Half Moon Bay at
a restaurant for the after festivities. I think you got the year right.
Others that were there might chime in with info. I'll CC them.

Lawrence Rhodes..

Thank's
