Re: batteries in tesla and zap

Originally I believe the Tesla Roadster was powered by 6,831 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries -- the same cells that run a laptop computer. Range: 250 miles. Fuel efficiency: 1 to 2 cents per mile. Top speed: more than 130 mph.

It's some kind of lithium-ion for sure. ZAP in 2003 bought part ownership of a lithium-ION battery maker in China. FWIW

Tesla use A123 cells, right? The same ones that are discussed here
http://visforvoltage.org/forum-topic/batteries-and-chargers/578-a123-developer-packs

The drive-train is based on (designed by) AC Propulsion, similar to the one in the Corvette.

From: http://www.teslamotors.com/learn_more/faqs.php

What is the battery chemistry?

The Tesla Roadster uses Li-ion cells - the same kind of batteries used in most consumer-electronics devices, such as laptops, cell phones, and camcorders. Only a few more of them.

Does anyone know if they are using 18650 cells?
