Trolls Playground

As there are again and again postings in some topics which don´t bring them (the topics) forward, rather slowing them down or trying to give them a new direction, I create this one to answer questions, which have nothing to do with the "maintheme".

So here we go...

Re: Trolls Playground

Guy's, all this discussion is very interesting, and the accumulated knowledge is really impressive!

yes and quite helpful for those who search information and or help. My bike won´t run anymore without the people in this forum.

But just to skew the debate a little, here's the thing! Apart from a handful of enthusiasts, (who from either technical interest like Matt and the Laird, or determined necessity like Mik,) have made themselves experts in battery technology, very few people are interested or can be bothered with the intricacies of battery maintaining and charging.

Just to skew your skew ;-) This is a forum for the enthusiasts and interested. And yes the mainstream will continue to hop in their vehicles turn the key and drive. If it is gasoline, plutonium or something completely different pushing them forward will not matter as they reach their destination fast and cheap enough.

Will this change radically ?

"Qué será, será"

Will an in-depth knowledge of battery technology become a talking point of great interest once EV's become mainstream transport?
I mean, can you see guys sitting round arguing the merits of batteries in the same way that ICE enthusiast talk about V8 v/s turbo charging? Will the same emotions run rampant?

It happens right now! As there are forums discussing about ICE cars, there are enought discussions which chemistry has which advantages, is regenerative braking a fake, whill there be enought Lithium left in 2 years, why still use a serial wound motor instead a permanent magnet and so on and so on.

Will the EV motorist of tomorrow, be as well educated (or just as ignorantly opinionated) as to the technical details of his EV vehicle as he is with ICE car?

...and here the refrain... ;-)
"Qué será, será"

Will there be the same articles in motoring magazines, and shows like Top Gear?

No they won´t will be, they right are! When Vectrix came up many magazines did grab the topic. The picture shows only those related to the Vectrix (found on www.vectrix.de

Just go to the next kiosk or newspaper-stand there are many magazines...

How will the automakers label the different Marques to establish more or less powerful(desirable) models.

With RX (range-exteder), KW of the engine off course, KWH of the battery, battery chemistry, Hub motor in the tyre/tire, time of charge, fastcharge option etcetcetc...

What new parlance and jargon will be created to fill in all those Pub conversations?
No idea but it will develop...

Just a thought.......(I really should get back to work!)

Greetings Mike

Mike, I'm born in Switzerland, so I appreciate your Germanic desire for order and everything in it's correct place. I also find your contributions very well researched and knowledgeable.

However, when I was quite young, my parents migrated. I was educated in the UK and Australia. The concept of chaotic, spontaneous creativity and humour, is pretty strong in the English speaking world.

Let's see if I can explain this to you, and please don't take offence. Often the most interesting threads are those whose original subject matter is long since depleted, but continue to grow due to the interesting by-paths that the creativity of debate has let the reader explore.

I can appreciate, for those who lack imagination or believe in 'strict order', may find this behaviour a little confronting! But that's why this forum attracts a wider range of readers that just those interested in dry technical information. (most readers want more than an on-line anorak swap meet).

I know you have the best of intentions, but what is not appreciated, is being labelled 'Trolls', because we don't share your passion for rigorously enforced, serious, orderly labelling. Spontaneity will dry up if you police threads every time someone wanders of topic.

Loosen up! (Remember the fate of a certain citizen of Linz who lacked tolerance and had a passion for 'order')

Just go with the flow, Mike. Enjoy diversity! If the off-topic posting are boring or disruptive, they will meet with no response, and die naturally.

Nep, as in a song from Reinhard Fendrich "I am from Austria" (but it is not my style of music...)
No joke: I sometimes use dictionaries (online or books) before I answer. Nevertheless I often
step in a bowl of crease as we say (ins Fettnäpfchen treten) you say something like to drop a brick?
I have problems with synonyms as I ment "crossing fingers" and wrote "pressing thumbs" in one post.

I didn´t open this topic to mark anybody as a troll, I wanted some playground, where I can say my
opinion, if I think it is too off-topic in the other thread. An example for me is the topic
"How many vectrix reached 30.000km?" as that one was soo offtopic for some time, that there was
opened second 30.000km thread.

@ Marcopolo please be patient, I´ll answer, but I still have to investigate and research. By the way
the special citizen you mentioned, you didn´t mean Johannes Kepler did you?

;-)

Re: Trolls Playground

Ive not heard 'drop a brick' but it WAS in the list of idioms when I googled it!
www.answers.com/topic/drop-a-brick

However 'Drop a clanger' is one I hear often, and that is listed as an alternative to 'drop a brick'
Mind you I dont really know what a clanger is haha - I can only think its something that would make a loud clanging noise when dropped
www.thefreedictionary.com/clanger

By the way,the special citizen you mentioned, you didn´t mean Johannes Kepler did you?

Oh, no, I was thinking of the student, Rainer Maria Rilke! But now I think about it, Linz is not just a steel town. Many distinguished citizens gained their early education in Linz, scientists,(Keppler) poets (Rilke), music,(Anton Bruckner)and that annoying little fellow who would never share his Linzer Torte without making such fuss, and tantrums. Still, I believe he later gained employment in the performing arts as a Charlie Chaplin impersonator.......

Hi Marcopolo,
because the chaotic, spontaneous, creativity and humor of English, it´s still somtimes quite hard to understand the technical stuff and don´t roast myself by following the misunderstood instructions. It still is sometimes hard to follow when the "salt and pepper" in topic is rather much.
It´s no belive in law and order it´s a problem of understanding AND as mentioned in a post above another reason were the postings in the 30.000km thread.
And I missed a playground-topic for us too ;-)

And as an Austrian being compared with this special guy is hardboiled even if it is 70 Years ago.

Somehow it is still a cultural problem for Austria and Germany somehow-I hope everyone understands how cultural is ment in this context)...

To come to the end: Don´t bother, everyone of us is a Troll sometimes, I didn´t mean you especially by creating this topic.

Greetings Mike

Yep, started with resort hire and overseas student leasing, but expanded to security patrols and Oil/inflammable/ chemical storage facilities. We also have specialist EV vehicles built for security work in various sensitive installations. (I'm waiting for an order from a James Bond villain!).
