A Czech team are claiming a world record for the longest distance covered on an electric scooter in 24 hours.Czech scooter brand AKUMOTO and national electricity company ČEZ teamed up for the world record attempt on Monday and Tuesday with the standard scooter with no special changes eventually clocking up 1,136.3 kilometers.
The scooter marathon organizers say the distance covered — equivalent to the journey between Prague and Paris — required just 40.8 kWh and cost Kč 190, around €8, in terms of normal electricity prices.
... ČEZ announced in May its intention to install 50 charging points for electric cars and 200 by 2013 to help encourage their sales with electricity charges at special tariffs to encourage customers to make the switch. The Czech power company also teamed up with French auto producer Peugeot, which is providing 65 electric cars to help in ČEZ pilot projects to help promote such cars.
I've been to Prague but I am blanking on the name of the currency or the conversion rate. I believe the amount quote in Euro's converts to about $12 US. That's an inexpensive cost for such a long trip, especially as it's 2-3 hours of airplane time.
I don't remember Prague having many scooters. What I remember is an excellent well-used streetcar and metro system, and a fair number of cars, some three-wheeler pedicabs for tourists in the old town, etc, but not much in the way of motorcycles or scooters. Still it's nice to see this.
The scooter in the picture doesn't look like a maxi-scooter FWIW. It's shown having a hub motor that I expect is 5 kilowatts.
The 40 kilowatt-hours consumption means there was recharging - say, 10 recharges. They don't say whether it involved quick charge of one pack, or a quick-swap battery pack.
Ah.. found the manufacturer web site :- http://www.akumoto.com/
The pictures include one that looks like a quickly removable/changeable lithium battery pack under the seat. They have a blog post http://www.akumoto.com/detail/rekord giving some more information but not really answering the questions above.
They have design info: http://www.akumoto.com/technologie
