Li-Fe-PO4 clone-ish a123 at batteryspace

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3071

"Li-Fe-PO4 Rechargeable: 18650 Cylindrical Cell 3.2V 1300 mAh, High Discharge (10C) Rate and safer than regular Li-Ion battery"
$6.75 USD for one battery.

I might have missed it, but I didn't see any chargers for this. The specs say charge to 3.8v. And they don't cite any greater cycle life than the normal 500 cycles of Li-CO, and only 10C discharge rate compared to a123's 30C. I wonder if they bothered doing those tests in the rush to get this to market? Or is the difference because these are not "nano phospate"?

Have you seen the LiFePO4

Have you seen the LiFePO4 battery packs at http://www.powerstream.com/, click on batteries & packs, click on Litium ion cells with high capacity and high current capacity, then click on Litium iron phosphate packs are now available. The claimed stats on the Lithium iron phosphate packs are amazing. They are claimed as safe as Lead acid batteries with 1/4 the weight, 4x the energy density and has a cycle life of up to 2000 charge and discharge cycles!! I was wondering if anyone has purchased and tested one of these battery packs on their electric bike? They are offered for sale for $625 USD for a 36V 10Ah pack which includes a battery management board. I currently own a Bionx kit, so I can not use in on my bike.

Re: Have you seen the LiFePO4

I'm using Chinese ones with Amita cells - don't know if they are FePO4 but they have survived falling from the bike so far, thus are not that bad ;-) Now I'm searching for 36 V and wonder if I should buy cheap 36V LiPoly tool battery packs instead...
In particular we need some cell which might be charged with 400W....

Wow! Amazing. 5 KWh (110Ah x 48 v.) for $8,000.

This is going to revolutionize transportation.

Internal Combustion Engines, R.I.P. Arab $65 /barrell oil (only $3 /barrell cost of production from Saudi oil wells) R.I.P. - no regrets, they can eat oil for breakfast. I am fed up with their moaning and the post-colonial leftist moaning about how we are stealing their oil.

I am told the amount of lithium is only 7% of the weight. So 5 KWh contains about 3.5 kg of Lithium which will cost about $350 or less. The rest of the material, iron, phosphate, is essentially free.

I would think that the price of the 5 KWh pack will drop to $1,000 in quantity???

I hope your not serious.

Cheap NiMH: $2782/5kwhr
SAFT NiMH: $7250/5kwhr
Dewalt drill packs using A123 cells: $6587/5kwhr
Lithium Cobalt: $3271/5kwhr

The point was that the price of LiFePO4 will be dropping fast (read last sentence first).

A123, which are superior batteries, are at roughly $4,000 / 5KWh. So this other battery will be dropping in price fast, as volume production improves.

At $1,000 / 5KWh (if ever), you can have a 60 miles going pure EV with a battery pack that costs only $3,000.

Now, that will revolutionize transportation.

...but for all that money, only a 30 amp maximum discharge rate!

Re: Have you seen the LiFePO4

due to things, i have lif4po 24v 10ah and a nimh 24v 8ah i am still in testing but afaics all the lifpo i have gives is probably 2ah more at this point i dont seee much if any difference, i guess thats when u look at charge cycles but again i see little difference. my point is paper burns in seconds real life lasts as long as those who own one lol.

i say gather old batteries from discarded laptops etc and make your own. cause the perices to buy alone are rediculous and tyrust your guvorment cares alot lesss then you generally a guvorment cares about what you care about , about as much as the law requires them, if only that was sold along side capitalism.

oh to those who are to lazy and amp is an amp and avolt is a volt only difference is as vs dc and if you gert on enough philosofy or are just bright u know analogue and ndigital are the same thing.

Monkey see, monkey do, so get the monkey to do it.
