Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

Included in the conversion kit is a small red light.
*snip*
I'm curious what it does - I imagine it will light up when the BMS is tripped (?). If so, I might go back in and install it somewhere visible.

That's correct, it is lit if the relay inside the blue box is off

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

Watched the conversion video series - very insightful; also,
I have read this entire thread.

I am planning a lithium conversion on a 2007 original firmware
version bike and just have one question. In one of the
later videos where you say to check the green led's on the
bms modules - how do you check the led's on the lower
level batteries that are under the 12 batteries in the
upper level?????

This may be a premature question as I have yet to
perform a conversion but thought to ask as
my conversion is indeed pending, and, you do say in
the video that it is important to ensure all bms led's
are green.

Also, for the conversion, do you make available the
Diagnostic software (I have been trying, unsuccessfully,
to get my hands on that since I got my bike) as the
dealer from whom I purchased my bike is no longer supporting
the Vectrix line of bikes. (distance 100 miles) Not only
that but they are selling all of their inventory (see ebay,
~4500USD each Ni copy). I asked but get denied re the
diagnostics software. So if you know where I can get it
please, please tell me so that I can take care of
my bike....... thanks!

Glad you enjoyed the videos :)

The green LED's come on as soon as you put the little circuit board on the cell
once you can see they are on, you don't really have to look at them again

diagnostic software -> I will email you a link

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

Greetings Matt & the crew.
Just reporting in - My vectrix has now done 7,000Kms - 5,500 since the conversion. It's still going well - I've not had the red light come on since the first few charges. Mainly I do about 50km before a charge, but sometimes up to 80kms and have not got below a couple of bars, performance is still very good. I use the scooter most week days (but had a long lay-up due to a bout of sciatica - not related to lifting the battery out methinks).

Matt, are you still working on a 60Ah conversion kit? I still have two 'spare' Vectrix and would like one day to to convert one of those.

There's a lot negative on here about this bike - but NiMH battery aside, I think they're brilliant.

cheers, Bruce.

My only negative is that if it breaks, I have no one who can fix it. Otherwise I believe they're an excellent scooter. To date, with 10,000km, apart from electricity and registration, mine has not cost me a cent.

If I had some reliable backup I'd do a conversion in a heartbeat.

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

Hello,
I come to you because I have a friend in France who would like to also do a conversion in lifepo.
The idea would be to go with the A123 four cells in parallel (80A)? 168 Cells in A123 is possible?
Another thing how do I change the firmware? The controller can be controlled with a usb can?
As the sevcon gen4?
Have you an idea of the controller?
Sevcon?
Thank you
Laurent

A123 20Ah pouch cells are hard to package, they have to be immobilised with respect to the to tabs

One tab is nickel plated copper, and the other is aluminium.
The aluminium is the real trick as it work hardens really easy and become brittle.

My kit is not all that useful if you are using A123 20Ah cells

the controller firmware can be changed with a USB-CAN connector
however specific setting can't be changed

Hi Matt,
Would this be an opportune time to re-cap the various alternative Li cell upgrade options (cell type and number required), pros and cons of each and your kit options and prices?
Also, have you had a chance to confer with the Laird re doing a version of the firmware that will allow the stock instrumentation to work fully with the bigger Li cell capacities?
Regards, Martin.

Hi Martin,

the original kit still uses the 42x 40Ah cells (CALB or Winston)

The new kit which I have only just today made ready to ship uses 42 x winston 60AH or CALB 70Ah cells
I will be making a new thread for that kit soonish

The Laird has made a software revision that allows the original Vectrix ESD charger to charge the 70Ah cells, but the fuel gauge as set does not work

basically, if you spend most of your time below 80kmh, the 40Ah cells are fine

If you spend most of your time above, particularly on the freeway, the CALB 70Ah cells are best

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

Yes please do start a thread on that topic! 70AH conversion... brilliant! Will they fit? Can we go to 100AH if batteries are put in the helmet compartment and/or in a top-trunk (I'd rather not pull a trailer FCOL!). Let us know when your kit is ready! I've got a scooter with dead batteries...
I'm working an angle to custom order LFP 70AH batteries from my friend's factory in China for dirt cheap. So I might be ready soon.

Why don't use 100A battery ?

We have 320cell of CALB 100AH pulled out from 5 ZOTYE E-car,in order to replace by CHL 100AH testing.

They are brand new and only Usd80/cell FOB China

Hi CHL, in Europe you can have this price for this quantity!!!
in http://www.ev-power.eu/CALB-40Ah-400Ah/SE100AHA-Lithium-Cell-LiFePO4-3-2V-100Ah.html?cur=1
And cell of 100ah Calb is too big....what about your batteries size?

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

The new kit information is up

CALB 70Ah is the largest cell that will fit

not enough CALB 100Ah cells will fit unfortunately

having said that, 100 x 100AH cells is a good sized battery for a car

Hi Matt,

My NiMh battery died few month ago.
Impossible to get an official Li transformation through french Vectrix dealer so I want to try your method (fantastic work these videos :o)
Could you PM me the invoice of a Deluxe 40 AH kit?
I send you a PM message some days ago but no answer, maybe there was a bug. I hope you are always on this business.

regards, Sylvain

Hi Guys,

I've been in the middle of moving house for the past few weeks, so have been a little out of contact

You never do trully appreciate how much stuff you have until you try to move it all at once

I send you a PM message some days ago but no answer, maybe there was a bug. I hope you are always on this business.

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

Wow 70 AH!

I just wanted to check in to let everyone know that the 50 AH conversion I did last year with the Antiscab Kit is still working perfectly (minus the fuel gauge, but the Cycle Analyst is better anyway).

I don't ride as much as I used to, since I got my Zero this year, but I keep the V charged and ready to go.

I still have it for sale - no bites as of yet, but I'll just hold onto it if I can't sell it. There is some emotional attachment ;-)

Re: Vectrix Lithium Conversion Kit

I have just bought a Vectrix.... 2008 model, with 18,000 miles on the clock. It has NiMH batteries and is, according to the seller a reliable bike with a reasonable range.

I've watched the antiscab Li-ion conversion videos and found them very useful indeed. I'va lso been looking at sourcing some batteries. You refer to the 'kit' a lot in the videos. Can you clarify what the kit actually is at present and what the cost of it is please?

I haven't taken delivery of the Vectrix yet but will be doing next week. I've fancied one for years and got it cheaply enough to do a battery change at some point soon........

You may try our CHL battery,Usd68/cell for each 50AH,42cell just fill vectrix and it works perfect even under 2C discharged, you may read last page of http://visforvoltage.org/forum/11326-erider-8000w-scooter-australia-similar-xm5000li , Mr Phillip Carlson very well understand of our BMS and our first battery have passed 40000kms on clock without any problem even under 2C quick charging some times.

How about shipping to the United Kingdom? Do you do that? I'm thinking of converting to lithium using an Antiscab kit and your batteries. The weight of the batteries makes shipping impossibly expensive usually, so do you do sea freight to the UK?
