Green vehicles obtaining numerous automobile of the year honors
Each year, numerous agencies, foundations, and publications hand out automotive awards. Automobile of the year awards are especially prized. There appears to be little objective criteria in what makes a car of the year, or at least no one can entirely agree on what makes an auto of the year. Naming vehicle of the year as Volt
The 2 most hotly envisioned green vehicles, the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Motors Leaf, are both getting attention from various Vehicle of the Year-award-bestowing bodies. The Volt won Auto of the year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, based on Wired. It is certain that many are happy. General Motors is likely more happy than any others. Chevy Volt Vehicle of the year honors were also given out by Motor Trend and Automobile magazines, which are prestigious within the industry. Part of the judging for the Los Angeles Auto Show had Carroll Shelby, performance guru and automotive legend. Jay Leno was on the judging panel also. The Nissan Motors Leaf and the Chevy Volt, both green cars, differ in that the Volt is a plug-in hybrid, and the Leaf is totally electric.
The Leaf has got the award for Vehicle of the year also
The Nissan Leaf was named the 2011 European Automobile of the year, according to The Telegraph. The European Vehicle of the year is selected by a voting panel from several European automotive journals. There were 58 judges from 23 countries. The Nissan Motors Leaf is one of the first all-electric automobiles manufactured on the scale of a major vehicle manufacturer (notwithstanding golf carts), and it has been in a near dead heat with the Chevy Volt in most American Vehicle of the year vote counts at auto shows. The 2011 Detroit Auto Show promises to be a huge showdown of the two cars.
World honor the coming year
The votes are being compiled for the World Automobile of the year, which won't be announced until spring of 2011. Though serious authorities are weighing in on the best vehicles of 2010, it seems the best car of a year shouldn't be picked until years later. The cars that get the honor ought to be the makes and models that last a while.

I am surprised that your informative blog and interesting observation, got so little response!
It's a fact that more and more EV, EV hybrids are appearing on the market. The GM Volt is a very nearly all electric automobile, in as much as it can be driven in an all electric mode at the drivers choice. The Nissan Leaf is quite well finished and practical small car, but restricted in range.
Within the next 5 years, every major manufacturer will be offering PIEV and various types of EV hybrids across a wide range including light/heavy commercial vehicles, buses, and specialist transport, even working vehicles, diggers, tractors, etc.
It's good to see US manufacturers, once again, in the vanguard of automotive technical progress!
The real battleground for EV development will remain the energy storage system. At the moment the most advanced technology is Lithium, but several alternative technologies are already at an advanced stage of development, and each of the shows the promise to finally replace the convenience of fossil fuel.
We live in interesting times!
