Vector bank charger.. 5-2/6/10's
![rydnseek's picture rydnseek's picture](https://visforvoltage.org/sites/default/files/pictures/picture-1905.jpg)
I started putting together a bank charger when i ordered the xm3k. I found 5 vector 2/6/10's on Amazon, & bought them. $140 shipped. When they came one didn't work. :( I'm still trying to resolve that with the company.. hopefull there won't be any major problems. It does give me a problem wiring them all up.. i can only do a 4 bank charger for now.
I decided to go with anderson powerpole connectors. They can clip together, hold a couple of wires, & will handle thousands of connect/disconnects. I also decided to eliminate a terminal strip. So i will have 5 wires coming from the batteries. I will use astar's bank circuit he posted in the batteries forum. Here is the link to his diagram:
I went straight to the powerpole connectors from each battery. I used 12 & 14 ga wire for the charger connections.. 16 or even 18 would have probably sufficed. Here are my leads to the batteries:
I opened up the scooter to see the battery connections. They are easy to access, with plenty of room. Here are the batteries before adding the connections:
For visual clarity, i used a single 12ga wire for the end terminals.. a black & a red, & put on the corresponding color power pole. I had some 14ga clear wire i used for the common connections between the batteries.
Here they are wired up on the scooter:
The clear wires share the positive of one battery & the negative of the next in the string. They are connected in series, so only one charger lead is necessary.
I took the backs off the vectors, & set them on a shelf in my garage, where i will set up the charging station. I ran each plug to a power strip, so i can turn them all off or on. I snipped off the clamps, & wired the chargers as shown above.
With the vectors, i have to manually turn them on & can select the amp charging. One nice feature of them is the voltage check. After riding the scooter, i can plug in the charger, then check all the voltages before & after charging. It will give me some running info, & i might not get a battery monitor.. just the before & after will be nice. I can also make a powerpole plug for my voltmeter, to test the individual batteries under load.
When i get the other charger, i can wire it into the bank.. currently i have 3 chargers wired up & charge the batteries by moving the plug over to charge the 2 that got missed. I'll post the final wiring & some pics when i get it.

what was the Amazon's item # ? I couldn't find anything on Amazon at that price.
thanks,

I looked, too, & they don't have them anymore.. maybe that's why i'm having problems getting Samtronics to send me a new one.. one came dead in the box.
Now i don't see samtronics has them at all. I guess i can go directly through black & decker.. but they want me to ship it to them & pay to ship it back..
They were originally 22.99 each, with $25 shipping for all. It was a good deal, & doesn't seem to be around anymore.
Here's the link to the item right off my amazon invoice.. now they are $50, & samtronics isn't listed as a supplier.

Good to hear about them kicking in automatically.. i'll try these out & see if these do that, too.
I'm currently a 4 bank charging system.. so i charge up 4 of them, then move the plug down to get the last cell when the first 4 are done. It will be much better to have all 5 charge at the same time.
One of the chargers shows a higher voltage than the others. Even when i switch it to other batteries, it shows about .2v more than the others. It seems to charge ok, just shows higher voltage.
I may put the chargers into a terminal strip, so i can rotate the chargers. I might also try rotating the batteries after a month or so & see if the voltages run the same. I'm also going to put a log sheet by the charger, & start writing down the voltages, before & after charging.
I'm charging the 38ah batts at the 6 amp setting, which starts out at 6.4v. I might charge them at 10v every now & then to work the plates some. I need to do more research about the optimum current to charge them at.. which setting provides the best charging & least stress on the batteries.

I left my vectors on for half an hour, & they didn't auto start.. :(
So i guess turning them on manually is part of the charging routine.

Quazar
Hey there,
I love my Quazar scooters but just wish I could get a little more speed/range out of them. I upgraded from the three 7ah batteries to a single 36v 10ah unit (Big Kahuna from Todayshightech). With my GPS unit doing the measurement, I now get about 9 miles range. The speed seems to be around 17mph on flat terrain.
Do you know where I can get more information on modding this scooter. I am writing you because I see you have a 48V Quazar in your sig. They are the same as a Lashout? Xtreme 400? Zappy? Well, any information at all would be appreciated. I was also entertaining getting some of the lithium scooter battery packs on Ebay. Well, hope to hear from you...Thanks..Warren.
