computer hang, anyone?

With about 800 miles on my odometer, after pretty normal 10-miles at 25-45mph commute to work, I had my first computer lock-up yesterday. Only thing I did differently was that, rather than plug in right when I arrived, I waited a few hours 'til the space I charge in was clear of a meeting. (No way of knowing whether that's related, of course. It shouldn't matter.) It wasn't particularly hot, and I had shaded the bike from the sun.

Symptoms were as follows: post-charge, the bike was off, no key. I inserted the key, start-up sequence looked normal. When I went through the steps to "Go", nothing happened. The display was frozen at 0 MPH, all indicators looked as they should for the bike ready to start, except no "Go" indicator. I shut off the key - no change. I removed the key, still no change. Perhaps I swore, then used the key to open the under-seat storage. No change on the display. I wish I had thought to try the high beams and turn signals, but I didn't.

When I plugged it in, the normal charge sequence started, and when I unplugged, the unit reset and I was able to ride home normally. (Whew!)

Anyone else seen this, where the display stays on, and even removing the key doesn't reset it? If it happened away from a power outlet, I suspect that I would have had to call a tow truck!

I just found this thread,

And I suspect my issue is a bit different, because removing the key did not shut the bike down. Any thoughts on this much appreciated!

How do you like this picture: (Click on image to enlarge)

The situation was resolved by plugging it into 240V again, then out.

Unfortunately I did not try to use the key and so I do not know if it would have helped.

Those electronics tend to get a bit confused at times.

Yep, looks like the same symptoms. Thanks for proving that I wasn't hallucinating! There's a chance I may have triggered a kick-stand related glitch discussed in that other thread.

Seems sort of touchy to me, but I sure enjoy zipping around on it.

What's the flexy stuff in the picture for, some sort of GPS or camera mount?

A camera mount. I changed the setup since then, the camera quick-release is now hot-glued to the top center of the windscreen. That way I can record charging and riding views of the instruments as well as the view of the road, and the wind noise on the recordings is reduced.
