1990 El Ninja 750

I live in a very rural area so I built with range in mind. That is why I decided to go with lithium. I don't think I could have gotten the range I needed with lead acid. As we all know lithium is more expensive and somewhat more complex but I am glad I spent the extra money to go that route. My only regret is that I scrimped on the doner as I had to spend alot of time and money to get her into shape.

Batteries:
20 Thundersky 60 ah LFP
Charger:
Cheap Yang Ming on board charger, BCO 6006BL balancing charger
Controller:

HONDA CBR 600 F3 CONVERSION

My first road legal high voltage system. I wanted a sport bike and worked very hard to make it undetectable as electric. This required very complicated battery racks, and most of my hours were spent locating and fabricating a battery rack. All factory body work was retained, and very few modifications to the body work. I sold my race car, and built 2 EV's. (The CBR and the electric Kawasaki 4 wheeler.)

Batteries:
(6) C&D TECHNOLOGIES 12V SLA AMG 75AH

Boyd's Cycle

This is the second prototype I have built with the same parts. Unfortunatley, the more I learn the more I see what I've done wrong. The relatively small motor I have had trouble turning that wide tire. So I am starting a more carefully researched motorcycle with the same parts. My new plan is going to stay as light weight as it can be.

Battery Box Motorbike

I though I would report on my progress;
Well I come a long way since I started this project and she is proving out well. She goes at least 45 and with the 2 motor design, has very good acceleration. The brush motor tops out at 25 or so (runs at 2KW max) and the hub motor (5302) takes over from there. They share one throttle which was a little tricky circuitry wise.

My batteries are HiPower batteries which I got from ElectroMotor sport 2 packs of 16 cells wired in parallel for a 48 volt 40 AH system. I'm getting more cells to bring the system up to 60 AH and 3 parallel packs. No BMS yet so I'm being very careful with the discharge of the cells

I have about 50 miles of test riding and there are bugs like any new design but so far I happy with the way its turning out. The design is (I hope) DOT compliant and I just started the process of getting a vin number.

I do have the dream, desire of going into the motorcycle business but it's just a dream at this point.
I have had a few people ride the bike and they love it full EV grin. My brother just couldn't get off the bike he just wanted to continue riding. :D

Update:
I now have plates and she is fully road legal. The process wasn't difficult because she met DOT spec's just time consuming.

She got some paint
