Hello all, this may sound like a silly question but, I am just curious as I have never owned an EV before, how do you all diagnose an electric vehicle when you run into a problem with the computer, especially when you get a "yello wrench" error message. Is there some special computer that you all use to diagnose? Now I work in an automotive shop and all we work on is ICE's and I am aware of how to diagnose an ICE vehicle because they have computers in the cars to diagnose them properly. Is it the same as diagnosing an ICE?
Just curious! Thanks for everyone's time.

Hi. New guy to the forum. I have a Velocci electric bike. A beautiful piece made in the USA and I believe sold through NYC e-bikes. It is a 48volt with a 1500w motor. It stopped working. replaced the throttle switch with several different types and now it will run but cuts out and quits at anything above half throttle setting. It seems like the controller might be faulty. Factory replacements unavailable. Has anyone replaced these with another controller or know how to test/repair the original? Thanks Tom

Hey if anyone can shed some light on NJ laws concerning the Electric/E-bike Laws I would greatly appreciate it----I got stopped in August of 2010 and was issued a ticket for no registration---brought my paperwork and the Judge dismissed it---got stopped again by the same cop and he issued me 3 tickets--no reg--no ins--no DL---what are my options now?? and maybe I come under the mobility law--as I have been disabled since 1994---Can anyone help me or refer me to a loophole in NJ concerning the operation of an Electric Bike/E-bike???

Each year, numerous agencies, foundations, and publications hand out automotive awards. Automobile of the year awards are especially prized. There appears to be little objective criteria in what makes a car of the year, or at least no one can entirely agree on what makes an auto of the year. Green vehicles are all the rage this year, including the voting for Automobile of the year awards. Article source -Various car of the year awards slant to green vehicles by Money Blog Newz.

There are two basic types of motors in wide use today for electric bikes, direct drive and geared. The direct drive has no internal gears or other moving parts except the actual case which rotates around the axle on sealed bearings. The coils are wound around an assembly that is fastened to the axle and remains stationary. The outer ring of the case has a ring of magnets that rotate in close proximity to the electromoagnets formed by the coils. As the coils are energized in a specific pattern by the motor controller, the magnets are attracted and repelled causing the wheel to rotate.

I am building a vehicle system having an I.C. engine powering a 48VDC generator, which charges a 48V battery, and also serves power to a 48V vehicle drive system. The engine/generator will be started when the voltage (battery-sensed) falls to 40 volts, stays on till voltage reaches 48V. Questions: During startup, as the generator spins up, its output voltage would be increasing, yet its output is connected to the battery. Is this an issue, should the generator then be isolated from the battery circuit until it achieves the required rpm?
