Problem with a Sunbird Scooter

Got a Sunbird scooter cheap, but it was not running. I replaced some wires and a fuse, tested it with power and it seemed to work fine. Well, I put it all back together and now when I turn the key (turn on) the motor comes on (and stays on) without me applying the throttle and I have to switch it off to stop.. Is this a problem that anyone else has ever encountered? and if so, what is the most likely culprit? Also, the electrical connections use a 3-blade plug that looks like a CRT monitor plug. If I wanted to make up another battery pack I would need to get a female 3-blade receptacle to accept the male plug end to the motor and charger if I wanted to retain the stock plugs. Anyone know where I could get a 3-blade female plug end or would it be easier to replace all connectors (including charger) with say, the polarized plugs used on Lashouts? By "keep running" is the motor running at 'full' ?? A lot of controllers have a failure mode where they peg at full power.

yes, I believe it is running at "full". Could I get controller that is similiar in specs, perhaps on Ebay? Is the motor brushed or brushless? Wattage is 250, voltage is 36, I know. Are leads very specialized? I mean, if I find a generic controller and spliced in all the corresponding leads, Is the chances that everything will work, very good?
