2008 Zapino Manual

Does anyone have a PDF file of the 2008 Zapino Manual they would like to share, or a location where it can be found on the Internet? Some posts to this forum mention several changes on the 2008 model, and the manual on the zapworld website is for the 2007 model.

Re: 2008 Zapino Manual

I just spoke to mountain chen @ erider.cn who emailed me the Zapino manual pdf file. Just contact him. I just ordered one of his new VK2008 and am very excited. Good luck with your new wheels!

Can you direct me to some more information about the VK2008? I saw the photo of the Zapino XR but that is about all I know about it.

Re: 2008 Zapino Manual

Hey Tanner. I got all the skinny on the VK2008 by talking to Mountain Chen, the top engineer @ erider.cn. He works as a quality control consultant for Zap as well as builds the Extreme line. If you go to the website, there is only a small amount of information. I initially learned about it when I almost purchased another 3000w bike from the broker called China Depot. Talk to him directly and he can answer every question you have. Good luck, my friend!

Re: 2008 Zapino Manual

Hi Strawhistle -

The XM-3500 is the same as the VK-2008 is the same as the Paladin. All three are the exact same model manufactured by Mountain Chen's factory in China (http://www.erider.cn). The first model is the one imported by X-Treme Scooters (Alpha Products International is the company name and X-Treme Scooters is a brand name). I am a dealer for X-Treme (specifically I'm a vehicle broker class of dealer) - I don't import the bikes myself. The VK-2008 and Paladin are direct sales from Mountain Chen. I'm not sure if they are being sold as samples and if Chen is looking for another sales channel in the US. If you buy the bike directly from Chen you'll likely get a lower initial price - however, your access to spare parts will be limited as I doubt that X-Treme will sell parts to anyone other than customers who bought the bike from them (they purchase spare parts at the time they purchase the bikes and will likely want to keep the parts available for their customers).

As far as paperwork goes - for the XM-3500 X-Treme (or Alpha Products International) are listed as the manufacturer with the DOT. They will be producing the MCO (Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin) and providing the MCO to the dealer. The dealer then provides this certificate to the customer. The MCO is the certificate that you take to the DMV to get the bike licensed. This is different than how things were set up for X-Treme's previous bike (the XM-2000) - and we're hoping this will make the final registration process smoother. I believe that Chen will provide MCO's to the customer for his direct sales bikes - but the slight confusion possible there is that the MCO has a spot for both manufacturer and dealer.

There is a similar looking bike that is sold as the EFun-D that is sold by Proton at Falcon EV and at other sites as well. I don't know as much about these bikes - but DanCar on this forum sells them via his website. They are manufactured by http://www.efun-ev.com. They have a different motor and controller than the XM line. I'm not sure if the chassis is the same or not.

I hope this helps. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to buy a bike from one source or another (well at least not very much ;) ) - but I do honestly think buying the XM bike offers some advantages over purchasing directly. But it will likely cost you a bit more than buying direct from Chen but still less than buying from other importers.

Keyboardguy1 - how much did you pay? Also, when are you expecting delivery? I wish you good luck - let us know when you get the bike and how well it performs.

Confused, Zapino vs XM vs EFun etc.

Pretty confusing - if you go to erider.cn, it is now labeled as Zap China Manufacturing. So, is the Zapino 2008 made by them as well? If so, which XM model does it correspond to?

Re: Confused, Zapino vs XM vs EFun etc.

No. I believe the 2008 Zapino is made by E-Fun (their E-Fun "C" model") while the XM products are made by Mountain Chen.

Re: Confused, Zapino vs XM vs EFun etc.

The plot thickens. Mountain Chen has a web site labled Zap, but the motos are made by E-Fun?

Wouldn't it be nice if a big player entered this market at a reasonable price, with a great product (like Honda, or Yamaha, or Piaggio)?

I'd like to see the Chinese motos get great quality, service, parts, branding, but i'm not sure they are quite there yet. Maybe soon? Of course it takes years to build a brand, dealer network, etc.

Re: Confused, Zapino vs XM vs EFun etc.

It can all seem confusing. After doing a year of research I'm finally going to get my 3500 watt bike (shipping this week). I think part of the confusion lies with the fact of "old discarded websites" and "updated websites" with old company names. I found many of these embedded in international marketing websites like Alibaba. I've had several conversations with Chen about Zapino and E-Fun. He claims that Zap made the move from him to E-Fun because of his marketing under the X-treme name as well. Personally, I like competition, but I guess Zap was feeling put out. They actually are in an unique position because, unlike all the other internet retailers, they have had a good deal of public exposure. As soon as I get mine, I will give detailed reports.

Dear Keyboardguy,
Sorry to sound dense, but from your email, you are implying you are buying from Zap? X-Treme? Which models, any why? Just curious, as it sounds like you've done your homework.

Re: Confused, Zapino vs XM vs EFun etc.

Sorry about that...I'm getting my bike from Mountain Chen's company and is identical to the Ex-treme 3500Li. The model number is VK2008 and I'm actually getting the one to be sold in Europe, called "Verde." I considered getting the E-Fun D but really wanted the LifPo4 batteries, and more than 3000 watts. Like anyone else, I have the yet unfounded concerns about a new model and design, but after having talked at length to Mr. Chen by phone and email both, I feel confident in my decision. That man has remarkable electrical engineering experience, and gives out no more marketing "hype" than anyone else. If you want some more specific information, feel free to ask, or better yet talk to Mr. Chen himself. The man eats, breathes and lives electric vehicles.

Keyboardguy1,
How much are you buying the VK2008 for? And how did you arrange payment for it and all that?
