Schwinn 500w or 100w scooter?

I am trying to decide between purchasing either the Schwinn 500w scooter or the 100w model. I need to ride it up fairly steep hills in Santa Cruz (About 8% at times, think San Fransico hills or steeper). I do not really care how fast I go, I am just curious if I would be able to justify spending $400 instead of $230. I was looking at websites posting wattages of professional cyclists and it seems like they can only put out 500 watts of power for seconds at a time while a scooter would be able to put that out for about an hour. Thanks a lot.

Dan:

I've been riding the Stealth 1000 (1000 W) for about a month, and I couldn't be happier. I'm a really big dude, 275 lbs. and this scooter has plenty of umph to get me going. You can pick up the Stealth 1000 at SAM's for $300 bucks, which might make your decision easier.

mykoan, how is the gear drive? I would think a huge advantage with the 500 watt would be that it appears to still use a chain drive, and the gear drive was a problem in the past. Maybe they've improved it?

The gear drive isn't that bad really. I hear a lot of complaints about it, but I don't understand why. It's boxed in and you don't have to worry about it. It really takes abuse too. The wax inside is fine as well. People complain about the wax not being enough, but it is. Wax covers better than grease. Freewheel is nice, and I'm probably going that root just so I can easily switch out gears, but don't decide on a 500w just because of the gears on a 1000w.

I bent my wheel, broke my trans, and blew my motor. Now I cry a lot.
