What am I missing? cant get battery out

I have an XM3000. I trashed the batteries becuase I didnt install a Batt-EQ (not available when I got bike, couldn't keep myself from not riding it) and those power cheqs are annoying.

so, now before my warranty is up, I need to get them out of there, test them and send them back (I have a battEQ now).

Ok, I got batt #4 out, removed the basin it was in with the seat. Removed the back paneling. I removed all the wires.

It looks like battery #2 should just pull out- it doesnt. I lifted the entire bike up by the batteyr handles. That isnt right. It moves around a little in the box that it is in. It seems like it is screwed in the center, but that isnt possible of course. Are these glued in the center? What is holding this battery in place? Why cant I just lift it out?

So then I go to battery #1, becuase the mounts that hold the seat and basin on prevent me from taking out #3 or #5. Same problem, it moves a little but does not come out no matter how much I pull on the handles?

What am I missing? Why wont these batteries come out?

I haven't tried removing those batteries from my XM3K, just #4 as you have done. I'm guessing that the manufacturer used the same double-sided tape that was originally under #4 battery to help secure the others, keeping them from moving around? Try removing the front access panel on the seat "tub" (single screw holding that cover on if I remember right) and see if that gives you any easier access to reach in along the front of battery #1 to help pry it loose...

Sorry to hear that you're having battery problems. I decided to stick with bank charging on mine, using 5 of the Vector brand 2-4-6 chargers. It's ungainly, but works well. I use the bank charging at home and keep the original factory charger at work so I can top off while working. Haven't had a reason to keep the charger with the bike (yet). The other nice thing about setting it up for bank charging is that finding a 12V source is relatively easy (heck, even jump from a vehicle) to charge each battery individually as an emergency measure.

I have not bothered checking individual battery voltage for several months. The bank chargers all switch to different charging rates (with an accompanying "beep") within minutes of each other, which tells me that the batteries are all responding at roughly the same time during the charge cycle. But since you mention battery issues with yours, perhaps I need to check mine a little closer, since I HAVE noticed that the pack voltage is running at less that 60V almost immediately after charging, in less than 1 mile of travel. When I first bought the bike, I was able to keep pack voltage above 61-62 volts for several miles before it started sagging a bit. Maybe it's just the colder weather causing this issue for me?

Enough rambling - good luck with your repairs!

Re: What am I missing? cant get battery out

Well it turns out (and I feel stupid for this) the batteries are stuck to the bottom with double stick tape. ts amazing how strong that bond was, as I said I was able to lift the bike with all the batteries in it (except #4) by pulling up on the handles of batt #2.

Its annoying that there is tape and that batteries are completely enclosed, that gives it very little room for wiggling to get it out.

Now, how do I ship this thing? UPS wont take it. I cant find an msds on the greensaver website.

I had the same problem with a customer's Zapino that needed all new batteries due to the String Charger failed.

All five batteries were held down with the super strength double sided sticky tape. I used Isopropyl Alcohol
to loosen the grip. The biggest problem was all the open seams in the battery boxes that allowed the Alcohol
to drip out. Took a lot of alcohol but it worked. I didn't want to use anything stronger then the alcohol.

Re: What am I missing? cant get battery out

HI -- I shipped my battery back via UPS. I wrapped the battery with lots of saran wrap or Uhaul has a nice green wrap with a handle that
works great. Wrap it up good and put bubble wrap between batteries and ship it UPS, just do not tell them what it is. If you have to break up the shipments into 2 or 3 boxes because of weight then do so. MAKE sure you jump through all of Xtremes hoops and make copies of the paperwork for yourself too.Good Luck....Mikie

TechSkeptic, is that one of those sophisticated factory-adjusted brackets that won't release until a day after the warrantee expires?
