Video's showing the Zuumer's ride

I've shot several videos but wasn't able to post them because of wind noise. I put some tape over the mic on the camera, voila noise problem solved. Enjoy. BTW my youtube channel is: http://www.youtube.com/user/technosanity

Re: Video's showing the Zuumer's ride

Nice videos, BUT:It seems that STOP signs were disregarded! Most localities require a full stop before turning right at a stop sign or red light, and ALL vehicles are usually supposed to obey the traffic control devices before proceedeing through an intersection! Be safe, do not cause harm to yourself or others by your actions!--How about some video from the perspective of an observer, IE: "the man on the street"?-Bob Curry

Re: Video's showing the Zuumer's ride

Hi Bob, thank you for the concern, especially as I was nearly hit by a car while riding my e-bicycle to get groceries just now. Wasn't doing anything radical that time, simply riding down the bicycle lane at a sedate speed (all that bike does) and this car apparently didn't see me and was pulling from the other side of the street to enter a parking lot.

In any case I agree it doesn't look like it but I take it careful and be observant while riding the zuumer. e.g. at intersections I'm slowing down, looking through the intersection for other cars, stopping if I need to, etc. I paid careful attention in motorcycle safety class and especially got the part about safety coming from being observant. In all those maneuvers I was looking all around me before pulling them and also choosing quiet side streets rather than the main drag 100 feet from my house.

An interesting part of the Zuumer's safety is you're standing very high. The platform has your feet about 1 foot or so off the ground and it's quite natural to stand fully erect while riding. My head is well above the rooftops of the cars and trucks around me. I think that should make me more visible than on some other vehicles.

On the flip side if riding down a two lane street with cars on both sides - on a bicycle it's relatively easy to hug the cars to let other cars by - but the zuumer feels wide enough that it doesn't feel appropriate to hug the cars. As a result while on the zuumer I tend to be in the lane (if there's cars on the side) rather than over at the side. Maybe I have to get some more comfort with it, or maybe that's just the way it is.

Re: Video's showing the Zuumer's ride

Leave it to the internet to turn a great video about a new EV into a discussion about proper road safety.

The fact of the matter is that bicycles and other "board" vehicles only vaguely follow the rules of the road that cars are required to follow. Much like pedestrians they take their advantages where they can.

Like any other non-auto form of transportation you always need to be more aware of the cars than they are of you. You also need to be aware of pedestrians who may not be looking for you as they j-walk across the road.

But lets get back to the matter at hand. Although it looks like you were purposefully aiming at cars for the cinematic effect, the ride was nice, but too short. Having ridden a Zuumer, I was right there with you.

I will be posting my own experiences soon enough.

Re: Video's showing the Zuumer's ride

I took the Zuumer out for its first long ride, about 10 miles. When I finished the battery pack showed 50% remaining.

I have yet to do a full range test, but it looks like the stated range of about 20 miles is pretty close. This is with a near 200 pound rider at near constant max speed.

Loved the video, but good point everyone. I guess we are held to a higher standard in a way, we need to be more than careful not only for our own safety, but so others will respect us as riders. -ETW
