Just came across this project and it's totally awesome ...
http://www.planetsolar.org/index.en.php
It's a catamaran - 500 square meters of solar panels, rated for 93 kilowatts. The drive train is a pair of electric motors, and on average they're running at 20 kilowatts. According to their daily log they routinely collect 400 kilowatt-hours of electricity PER DAY and can collect a theoretical max of 650 kilowatt-hours. There's enough electricity storage on-board to let them run for a couple days non-stop.
The plan is to make an around the world trip. They left Monaco in September and just made it to Miami a couple days ago. No problems. They plan to get to Cancun in a couple days, making an appearance at the climate change conference.
Nice toy!
