I need to rebuild my gio bike (replace motor,controller, do shunt mod...etc) and as it's real hard
to source 112V SLA's for a reasonable price here in Canada (forget the gio bikes site :( ) i was wondering
if there would be any shortcomings using 12V 20AH SLA Motorcycle batteries as i can get them from my local
Canadian Tire for like $40 a pop.
Has anybody done this ? Any insight would be appreacted :)

I am not familiar with that scooter. I had my XM-3000 had the green savers die and before I replaced um with
MK- GEL CELLS MODEL MU-1SLDG 12V/31AH I used EVX122000 batteries and got the same mileage from new 12 v 20 AH batteries as I got with Green-savers. Green Savers are 38 AH ? 12 v 20 AH batteries are 20 AH and 20 does not equal 40 so I guess big lead was dead. Now I get in winter cold months here 22 miles to half tank? It still is in yellow zones. Charging at 12 Amperes = 2 1/2 hours to green light. So maybe battery was nearly flat then. But it showed yellow zones.

Yes that should work.
Are you sure that is the right battery? $40 is very cheap for 12 volt 20 ah.

It says "Up to 20 AH" whether it's continuous or peak isn't stated but i think it has to be better than the 12V 14AH batteries that are in my 500W GIO Bike

When you select the larger batteries that you want 18 or 20 ah...they aren't $40 anymore....$80 or $100
Even the 12 volt 14 ah are $72
Ugh... see it now. I guess it was too good to be true. The hunt for affordable batteries continue..

That's just slightly more than your initial thoughts of $40?
Open your battery pack and make sure they fit or buy the appropriate replacement that will fit, as they sell all sorts of batteries.
But if this project is beyond your abilities...find somebody qualified.
