350Green is building networks of fast charging stations in Chicago and the SF Bay Area

These are CHADEMO compatible stations - which mean that either the Mitsubishi i-MiEV or Nissan Leaf can use these stations and get 80% recharged within 30 minutes.

Note that the cost is excessive compared to the cost of gasoline. However, I talked with the President of 350Green recently about that. He said a) stations like this face expensive "Demand Charges", b) it's very expensive to build one of these stations, c) what is the value of the convenience of fast charging?
These stations require a 480 volt 3-phase AC 80 AMP circuit. Ask yourself, how expensive is it to acquire one of those circuits. The electric companies prefer these circuits to pull a consistent load. But charging stations like this pull a load when there's a car ready to charge, which means there's going to be a spike in power demand, and the power companies charge extra fees for spiky demand.
