Any experience with replacement non-OEM controller for the XB-600?
The "speed limit" seems wired in to the stock controller, though I don't understand why overvolting defeats the speed limit. I would hope that an aftermarket controller would not have a RPM limit programmed in.
The "speed limit" can be disconnected in the center console. Just unplug the single gray wire. The stock speedometer doesn't measure actual speed at all and the reported speed seems to be based mostly on RPM signaling and current draw. It even has an adjustment pot if you want to try making it less accurate.
Any brushless DC motor controller will work. There are no drop-in replacements with identical pinouts so if you replace the controller you will have to rewire quite a few things. Namely the turn signals, brake lights, ignition, and so forth to match the different pinouts of the replacement controller.

I saw that, and the grey wire is safely unplugged from the ground.
I was referring to the 20MPH speed limit. When the bike gets above 15 MPH, current draw slacks off so that the scoot just won't break 20MPH on the flats. Current jumps in a climb to keep the speed constant, and drops to zero between 20MPH and 22MPH. Above 22MPH, the batteries are getting charged, up to about 350 Watts.
What controllers have been tried? Do they exhibit the same speed limit at 48V?
Well, we've had the gray wire discussion before. Mine was unplugged when I got it and I thought it was left unplugged by error. I plugged it...and only later heard about the speed limiter. However, I have extensively tested mine plugged and unplugged and there is absolutely no difference in top speed...or anything else. And either way I get the 20-23 mph top speed on the flats, same acceleration, etc. as is usual with the xb600. So, I have to believe that some of these are such that the gray wire/plug has no effect as far as limiting speed.

Plugging in the grey wire will cause the XB-600 to have a top speed limited to less than the normal 20-24mph, but... It is controlled by another small circuit that contains a potentiometer that can be adjusted. You have to look for it inside the console. It's usually encased in shrink tubing.
the 20-24 mph top speed is determined by the motor and the voltage supplied to it. The motor winding, the supply voltage, and the timing of the hall sensors in the motor all determine the top speed of the motor. It's possible to attain slightly higher motor speeds by fine-tuning the position of the hall sensors inside the motor, but this will almost always result in a decrease in motor efficiency, and may lead to the motor starting up in the wrong direction, or even vibrating back and forth between forward and backward.

Oooooooo! More speed! Do you have a photo of this wonderful potentiometer? How is it adjusted, with a screwdriver or something else? Is there an advantage to adjusting the potentiometer vs. just unplugging the gray wire?

No there is NO difference. Only if the state laws limit to a certain speed. I dont have a pic, but if you follow the grey wires it will lead to a little black plastic tie wrapped on 2 ends. Inside is a little circuit board (about 1x1 in. or so) on it there is a dial that can be turned with a small phillips screwdriver.

well depending on your situation and state laws, adding a 5th battery is VERY easy and produces nice results. Only if the 23-25mph top speed will not make the ebike illegal. And trust me, adding the "shunt" mod really improves the ride of the xb-600. Add those 2 mods with a new set of those chieng or whatever tires they are posting about on here REALLY makes these things more fun to ride. I dont think the 25mph top speed is dangerous for these ebikes.
