Seems I'm about to acquire raynman's dead XM-2000. As I understand it the bike is lacking the rear wheel (hence no motor) and the controller, and is otherwise in good condition.
Am I right in assuming the hub motors they sell via kelly controller will fit this bike? If so which one(s)?
Any other recommendation?
If you go with a 10" hub motor then get one with a drum brake - or also plan on converting the rear brake to a disc.

As of this moment I haven't seen the bike but of course I own an EVT 4000. The 4000 doesn't seem capable of anything but a 10" wheel. This is an option on the XM2000? (to have a bigger wheel)

No - I didn't mean to imply that a bigger wheel is an option. You might have wanted to try something other than a hub motor (would take fabrication and more effort and probably isn't worth it). But I really just wanted to point out the XM-2000 is a drum brake at the rear.

The appropriate 2000W drum-brake-type motor and controller can probably be obtained from Current Moves in San Jose. The e-moto "metro", sold there until recently, is a relabeled old e-max, uses the same 2000 watt drum brake motor.
It won't be cheap. They wanted "$79.99" for just a the rear rim that attaches to the motor.
That would be an exact replacement motor.. There are several motors including a 3kw one at kelly controller that's on a 10" wheel. I suppose those can be used but there are other mechanical issues like will it fit into the swingarm.

Actually, I'm not sure it would be. AFAIK, the XM-2000 was the only bike to have a mechanically activated dual winding setup...

Ah.. good point. Was that a useful feature?
I'm just interested in a motor/controller combo that will fit compatibly with the frame.

Not really.
If it were me I'd buy a controller and motor from Kelly. I think they do one with a drum brake? If not, then adding a bracket to the swing arm to hold a disc brake wouldn't be all that difficult...

That's the easy default route, fer sher.
An option I think would work is to just skip a mechanical rear break and use regen as the equivalent of the rear brake. The kelly controller has variable regen controlled by a POT so having a break lever that controls a POT that drives the regen sounds doable.

Err, that's not a legal option and if you want to carry insurance they're going to want to make sure you have a legal bike.

I own a XM-2000 with the black 4 Amp charger and lots of XM-3000 and I can't see much of a difference. So if you want a motor ASSY and controller just do a ticket from Alpha products and get some. A controller is only $199,00 and I forget what the motor is but I think I am going to swap my motor to XM-2000 for I think mine died. No continuity from yellow to blue wire or green. Unfortunately I paid near list price for my XM-2000 and my first XM-3000 but I got lots of eBay wins of XM-3100 and XM-3000 for parts from get scooters.com

Actually, I backed out of getting that bike and no longer need the information. This means that Raynman still has his bike available for whoever wants it. It is in Tuscon. I backed out because I really have too many projects on my plate and it doesn't make sense to add another. It did sound like a fun/useful project to resurrect the bike.
