This article is by someone who is with Richard Hatfield on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Richard is the owner/inventor running Lightning Motors, and is also involved with the Killacycle team. He's built very fast bike that he had intended to bring to the TTXGP race (but it didn't get together in time) and they currently have it in Utah on the salt flats. I had talked with Richard in August about the bike and have a few pictures.
The bike is using a pack built of A123systems cells, and is powered by a motor salvaged from an EV1. It's a massive motor. Interestingly it has two separate liquid cooling systems in the motor. Richard believes the bike will do over 200 mile/hr.
In yesterdays installment it was revealed that the Bonneville people declared their dustbin style fairing was illegal. That left them scrambling to mount a normal Ducati style fairing.

The following are the pictures I took at the EV Rally of this motorcycle. The fairing on the bike is the one that was declared illegal.
A salt virgin no more...
"Even at 149 mph, I wasn’t anywhere near full-throttle. The Lightning has lots of energy left. Tomorrow will be a good, fast day."

And in today's dispatch he said they decided to remove the tail .. and that they only achieved one run today.
