Hi, I've never posted on this forum and don't know much about EV's
I'm looking into registering electric motorbikes in the ACT Australia.
Registration fees are usually based on the engine size in CC’s
Up to 300cc $197.80
301 to 600cc $511.40
Apparently the registry office will register an electric motorbike but they require verification of the motor size in watts to do a calculation.
I’m wondering where the Vectrix fits in – above or below 300cc - to give me a bench mark
I’ve asked the AU dealer what the motor size is, but he’s only come back with it is considered equivalent to 250cc in most states. But I want to be sure before I lay the money out and turn up with a bike to be registered
The only info I can find in specification sheets is Peak Power = 21kW
Any help would be appreciated - perhaps there's already a Vectrix with ACT (Australia) rego plates out there?
Cheers,
Pete
There are 3 vectrix in Tasmania reg. as 125cc
we were able to convince Service Tas.
should be no more than 250 cc reg
mine is 61cc... don't ask me, I told them that the continuous rated power of the bike was about 9kW and that's what the experts at head office thought.
In the Netherlands the bike is classified as a 125cc bike.
This is due to the 4KW rating of the motor on the registration
Once you go EV, Gas is history!
Same thing in France, even thow the Vectrix is more powerful than the ICE are allowed to be : 21 KW for 15 allowed
Le site des utilisateurs français (The French user's website) http://www.vectrix.fr/
mine is also 61cc.
when i had mine registered, they had to ring around to work out how to get it in the system.
im in WA though.
i do know there are Vectrix owners in ACT (since when i was at the AEVA show in oct last year there was one on display with ACT plates)
i don't know how to contact them though.

2007 Vectrix, modified with 42 x Thundersky 60Ah in July 2010. Done 194'000km
Thanks for that info.
I think if the ACT rego office came up with a number greater that 300cc I'd have good reason to protest.
Bizarre how many different results there were.
Thanks for your help.

well the peak output is 21kw in the dealer inflated brouchers (i think i found the original one written by the engineers that said ~15kw peak).
the continuous is 7kw.
either way, definately sub-250cc (my 250cc does 35kw peak for reference).

Hi Pete
Mine is one of the three Tassie Vectrix registered as 125cc.
The fact that Vectrix is speed limited to 100km/h was a big factor in the sympathetic hearing the motor registry bureaucrat gave me when the bike was new. As they explained to me, small engined motorcycles can still go fast, hence high price rego/insurance costs for 300cc bikes.
The Vectrix is also LAMS approved, which indicates that the power/weight ratio indicates a 'safe' bike for learner riders.
I think the dealer is just trying to talk up the power of the V to the detriment of owners who must pay extra for rego every year if registered as a 250.
Best of luck with the bureaucrats in ACT.

In my VECTRIX owners manual, the vectrix motor is rated at 5.1 horsepower, continuous output. Therefore, it seems a basis for claiming this power is established!--(5.1 horsepower is equal to 3,804.6 watts, with 100% efficiency)-Bob Curry

In spain oficial rated power is 3.8kw...
