Pure electric uses a battery to store electrical energy to power the vehicle. This is the only method of propulsion
Hybrid electric uses both electrical energy and a conventional internal combustion engine to provide power. There are several ways that this can be done and each has their own merits.
I like pure electric, I don't think hybrids have much benefit over a good diesel vehicle other than introducing a reluctant public to Electric propulsion.

Factors that depend on the battery - that's pretty broad but I think would include whether you get places on time, the length of time required for long trips, ..etc..
I think you meant tho the factors that determine the length of recharge time? Sorry, I'm being a little pedantic maybe.
Anyway... some determining factors include
- Battery chemistry - some can rapid recharge, others can't
- kilowatt-hours of pack / amps of charge current - If you think of a battery pack as a bucket, and the charge current as the spray of water filling the bucket, obviously a powerful spray (firehose) would fill the bucket faster than if you're dripping from a straw.

Technically, when speaking of vehicle propulsion systems, an "ELECTRIC" vehicle is a vehicle that is propelled only by ELECTRICITY. A "HYBRID" vehicle is a vehicle that uses TWO or more different propulsion systems for locomotion, often to extend the operating distance, and/or increase availabe power and acceleration, beyond the capabilities of either independant power source. (A bicycle, with working pedals and either an electric or gasoline "helper motor" is a HYBRID, using human and motor power)--The main TYPES of "HYBRID" are SERIES and PARALLEL. An example of a SERIES hybrid would be a car with a gasoline motor that only turns a generator to charge batteries, and the electricity then powers an electric motor that turns the wheels. If BOTH motors can turn the wheels, it is a PARALLEL hybrid, and in such cases, the peak power available is usually much greater than either motor could provide alone.---Hybrids may also utilize additional power sources, such as SOLAR energy for power.-Bob Curry

Charging depends on a lot of things one being the size of battery pack. Like for instance my truck started of at 120 volt using one full pallet of Trojan T-125's and it was series parallel with about 450 AMP Hr pack. With a Lester 25 Amp charger charging the pack that would take about 18 to 20 hours. Most people do want to go to work the next day? I then went to Trojan T-145 and 144 volt pack and now the battery pack can charger with a 25 amp SCR charger in about ten hours. you mentioned 5 hours?

Wow other than my VX-1 and my Chinese scooters I have hardly seen 2 to 5 hour charges. If you have a Prius as a plug in Hybrid then you have to figure the pack amp hours and the size of your charger in order to figure charge times. Charge time are close to amp hours if Gel Cell or some deep discharge Trojans but using a T-105 with a Puekert exponent of 1.28 will give a real long charge time. The newer Lithium cells still take a while to charge if it is 100 to 200 AMP Hr if done at 10 or 20 ampere charge rate. High current charging can make a fair amount of heat also.
Charge time also should include cool down time and like on my Vectrix when it takes 3 hours at 11 amperes it cools down for 45 minutes and resumes charging at 3 amperes for some reason for about 30 more minutes. So in my book that is almost 5 hours.
I ruined my first battery pack in my truck by vigorously charging and quickly driving again and battery pack got real hot. I did a fair amount of using an American Monarch charger, 40 Amp charger with a super bad-boy 240 volt to give battery charge rate of 80 to 102 Amp on pack of 120 volt.

Electric and hybrid cars both use technology that is designed to decrease the use of gasoline fuel for powering car engines. Electric cars are totally electric, meaning that they must be plugged in and charged, and that the range of the car is only as far as the charge. Hybrid cars use a mixture of gas and electric power to create a gas efficient partially electric car with a less limited range. Some hybrid car owners have modified their cars further, to run entirely on electricity except in emergency situations, in which case the drivers use gasoline power.
