I have two Lashout Scooters. They both have been modified. One has 3 SLA 22 AHR Batteries with a after market BLC 36 Volt 600 wattbrushless motor it used to have two of these motors until one fried. The other is a 48 Volt with four 10 AHR SLA with a custom Ametex 64 Frame Brusless which just fired since I ran over the recommended voltage of 36 volts.
I also have modified these scooters with Avid DownHill Rotor Disc Brakes. The 36 Volt will go 25 MPH the 48volt will go 30 MPH. I just ordered two 48 Volt Motors from powerpackmotors @socal.rr.com I will use a dual motor plate from www.evdeals.com I also am ordering LiFePO4 pack from www.yesa.com.cn The only problem is the battery tray sizes I have. I want a 20 AH pack but the only one that will fit is the 12 AH 48 volt pack. So I am researching what range is possible with this battery. Would this unit last as long as my 22 AHR SLA B 7 B high out put SLA?
.
The motors are from powerpackmotors [at] socal.rr.com ask for Tim . The dual motor plates are from www.evdeals.com ask for Scott.
The 48 Volt Motors from spowerpackmotors @socal.rr.com I ordered have a RPM of 3760 RPM I have 54 Tooth Sprocket on the wheel. I also have a 15 Tooth clutched sproket on the motor. THe speed may be calculated on the http://www.4qd.co.uk/faq/roadspd.html site. The reduction gear ratio 54/36 is 3.6. Insirt the numbers. My wheel is 13" and the Miles per hour is 40.1. By the way the sproket is nonstandard one that come ona bike. The standard scooter one is 90 tooth.

Hi Craig. I have seen your posts to this forum since the beginning. The intent was not speed on this project. This set up can go 50 MPH according to Tim (powerpak) with higher voltage. These controllers do have higher rated mosfets to attain higher speeds. I really do not want to go 50 MPH off road on 13” wheels. It already is spooky to go at those speeds on a certain down hill on my Specialized Full Suspension mountain bike with 26” wheels.
The intent is to have hard acceleration, 40 MPH top speed, light weight, reasonable costs and look stock. I also wanted the ability of anybody with reasonable mechanical ability to be able to order parts and bolt this thing together
As far as costs go the two 48 volt motors $ 600, dual motor plate and wiring harness $ 100 ( From poweer pak), Lashout with out motor. I was able to get a dealer to sell one without a motor for $ 300. The battery is the most expensive for LiFePO4 battery packs for 20 AH is $932(48v 20 ah) and 637 for 48 volt 12 AH. The 12 AH I can fit into my own battery tray which came with the Lashout. Just take the tray and mount it on the bottom of the frame for more depth and add a 1” channel for the deck riser So the price for the 20 AH scooter would be $ 1932. and $ 1637 for 12 AH. not bad for a unit that I can lift into my truck myself and blow away most scooters excpet for Craigs Deaf Scooter Rigs.
IN regards to my batteries. I just got off e mail with Sam of www.yesa.com.cn this is what he said about range since I can only fit a 12 AH LiFePO4 the size is 275x140x90mm.
My battery box from EV deals is 13.75 " (340.32mm) length x 6.25 (154.69mm) width x 3.75" height ( 92.82 mm ) . As far as range this is his comment "The LiFePO4 can normally runs at least 1.5 times of the Sealed Lead Acid battery, so regarding your battery "
So I would assume this is 1.5 times 1.2 AH to equal 1.8 of a SLA. I will see once I test it. I do not think this takes into consideration the lower weight. I gave Sam the ok to ship this pack. Should get it soon. I will have to install the battery tray which is differnt from the one that came with Lashout. I purchased this from EV deals long time ago .

Nice unit.Thats very clean installation of the Etek. I used to have same unit Currie F15 with dual 36 Volt BLC motors and three 22 AHRs .Pretty quick but not in same league as Etek, It really had wider platform for the battery tray better than the Lashout. But the Lashout came with the mags , larger tires, dual shocks, bolted wheel sprokets and the much lighter frame.
I just found out my 12 AH LiPO04 batties are shipping today and the Motors are shipping tomorrow. Looks Like a week end project. The weight of the batteries are 15.4 lbs. Compare this to comparable SLA 18 AHR at 52 lbs. Huge difference in size and also weight. 36.6 Lbs less.
Ya...the difference in weight between battery types is pretty noticeable.

Im new to this venue, but I'm learning a great deal from it. I was wondering what the recomended tire pressure was on your Lashouts? I have a I-Zip 1000 that I modified with the help of Tim at Powerpackmotors(can't say enough good things about dude!). I bought a 1500 watt bmc motor with a 90 amp (upgraded mosfet) modified controller powered at 48 volts with 4 12ah batteries. Although I have cooked a couple of controllers(another story),I have been bumping it close to 38mph. However,I am concerned about the stock 12.5x3.0 tires while traveling at that speed. The stock tires don't impress me much and are a pain to keep them balanced. What do you use on your scoots or am I ok with the 35lbs. tires that every vendor has?
Glad to know my Powerpack controller was not the only one to smoke! Good controllers if they could only hold together. I am not so happy with Tim. He told me the controller had a year warranty when I purchased it and then when it blew he told me it was 6 months. Not to honest if you ask me. But if you take out the dishonesty factor he is a nice guy. :) I have not decided if I want to risk buying another controller from Tim.
Matt
The wheel I use for high speed are the Lashout 13" diameter ones. These are better for high speed. I am not sure the standard Currie rim will work with them I looks like they will. I pump them up to 40 -50 PSI. Make sure you have the heavy duty ( Thick) inner tubes. You can get them from at http://www.electricrider.com/lashout/parts.htm.
AS far as Tim's warranty let me see if I can get Tim to comment.
This is Tim O'Brien writing just to say that I have never offered anything more than my standard 6 month warranty to anyone, Matt included. I remember communicating with one customer at one point who claimed I had offered a year, and I guess that must be this fellow here. 6 months has always been my warranty policy. I guess I should know that better than anyone.
Is it possible that at some point I somehow miscommunicated with this guy- who could ever say that was impossible? Just not likely. A lot more likely that Matt was and is confused on the matter. What would be the point in my offering a 1 year warranty, then renegging?
I don't recall ever being slandered in such a way before. Very mean spirited.
Tim O'Brien
I shared my feeling in a very polite manner. :) I even added that your were a nice guy. I am
SURE 100% sure the controller had a 1 year warranty when I bought it!! I do not want to take this
off topic any further than I already did. SORRY about posting just thought I should share my
experience with others who are purchasing the same product. Just did not want anyone else
getting burned and losing their hard earned money the way I did.
Matt
Geese Loiuse. You boys put the pistols down on the table and back away. Sorry I didn't go into my "other story". Ok here's the deal. There were actually three controllers cooked. However, the first one, stupid here(me), went color blind and cross wired it causing to croak before leaving the starting blocks. The second was performing just fine until i got greedy and bumped the gearing way up in hopes of not only catching the cars in the 45mph zone, but passing them. Tim had warned me that my gearing was tall, and being in Arizona, in August, and attempting to chase down a car that spit at me was more than it could take. The last one I'm not 100% sure what went wrong on it, except to say that I cooked a fuse and put a 100 amp fuse in the interim, which I forgot to change out(opps). The fuse blade had come loose and was arcing badly. Tim did offered to replace it under warrantly, but I declined as it was more than likely, my fault. What can I say, I'm honest. As far as the terms of his warranty, Tim was clear on the 6 month warranty. I really can't say anything negative about him or his products. Especially that 1500 watt motor!! He has been fair, honest, and does not speak with forked tongue! It may sound as if i'm a relative, neighbor or on the payroll, but i'm not. I'm just relaying my experience with him.
Have you gotten your battery pack from Yesa yet? I am considering the 48/12 as well. I also have a lashout with the powerpack motor set up on it and a custom made larger tray. I am pretty happy with the stock gearing 30 MPH top end and good hill climbing ability the single motor gives me, but would like to extend the range. I would also like the more linear power output of the Lithium pack (and the fact that they are supposed to last thousands of charges instead of hundreds and weigh half as much). Let me know your experience with the batteries as far as output, charging, etc, and if there is anything tricky about wiring them in.
Andy
I have received the LiFE204 48 Volt 12 ah pack but have not tested on my Scooter since it does not have the capacity to handle the amps with both motors. I think the pack will handle one . Sam at Yesa has told me the pack will handle 60 max amps and 18 continious. The charger will take longer than sorel charger. The charger that come with it will have to be modified for your Lashout with the correct charging plug. make sure you get the positive and negative correct. Would be interested to see what you did to modify your battery tray. The stock one will work if you attach to bottom of scooter and pull deck up two inchs.
I took a ride on Tim's ( Power Pack ) Jackle today. Never gone 50MPH plus so fast.
Let me know how your battery works for your Lashout.
I am not going to spend $700 on that Lithium set up unless I find someone else who has done it and loved the results. I heard by next Summer, more Lithium iron phosphate batteries will be available and hopefully the price will go down significantly.
I am a car restorer by profession, so we bent up a box from scratch on my friends machine 5 1/4 inch wide by 5 inches deep and 16 inches long. Right now I am running four 10.5 AH high Rate Powersonic batteries (which are now on backorder) and have plenty of room for all the wiring as well. I get between 8 and 10 miles on a charge depending on how hard I am running it. The high rate lead acid batteries really pack a punch on power peak amps. With the 48/ 12 Lithium cells, I bet I'd go 15 miles. It will just touch 30 MPH on the straights, and climbs all but the steepest hills above 20 MPH. Not bad for a 5 pound motor! Runs cool to the touch as well. I got a basket for it yesterday and did my first official EV shopping trip this morning.
My dream is to convert a very small Fiat to a Lithium powered electric car capable of 60 MPH and over 60 miles distance. Apparently, this is going to be possible within 3 or 4 years. (UNLESS BIG OIL SOMEHOW BUYS UP THE LITHIUM BATTERY MARKET)
I guess I am the guinney pig . Your battery tray is pretty deep if you go off road. Unless you are going to have the tray inside the side frame bars 4.5" wide and stand the battery on the side and have the deck higher. I am a sheet metal contractor so I guess I could bend one up too but If I just use the current tray I rather do that. Like I said before you can take the current tray and attach it to the bottom and add 2" bar stock to the bottom of the deck. Just look at the picture I posted. By the way what gearing did you use? 15 tooth with 90 rear?Is you motor the standard 35 amps?
You can purchase a modified Lotus with 250 mile range and 0-60 times of sub 4 seconds for just $ 98000 which will be available soon. Thats my dream when the price comes down alot.
I have stock 15-90 gearing, 35 amp motor. The battery tray mounts on top like the stock one, so the ground clearance is still good. I am also putting a 70mm travel front shock on in place of the stock 50mm (which has more like only 25mm travel), which will raise the front end up another inch.
Either YESA is getting greedy, or the dollar took another dump, because the price went up on the 48-12 battery pack since you got yours. He now wants close to $800 including the shipping. If you decide it won't work for your application, maybe you could sell yours to me.
Also, Doug at EV tech is bringing in some super high quality (Korean made?) LIFEPO3 cells and will be building all kinds of packs out of them starting early next year. he is going to use some type of carbon nano tubes for connecting the cells, and his prototype batteries have almost zero internal resistance, can take full discharge without damage, and run through a couple of thousand charging cycles before degradation. He told me he has 40,000 cells on their way, 10AH & 20Ah for building packs for for small ev's, and 50AH, 100AH & 200 AH for marine and large vehicle use. Prices may still be a bit higher than Yesa intitially, but the cycle life will be greater. I am tempted to be a guinea pig on one of those since I really do want to do a small car conversion in the future with the same larger cell batteries.
Oh, by the way, my frame is actually 5 1/4 wide, and we made the tray a VERY tight fit (had to pound it in with a block of wood and mallet)so I actually have 5 1/4 inch on the width, and a tad longer than 5 on the depth. This fits the current 4 12V 10.5 AH batteries I have, and should be close to fitting the 48 12 Lithium pack. Isn't the one dimension 120mm or about 5.5 inches? Could you measure that for me on your pack? I could alway put it in sideways and raise the deck 1/2 inch.
I know what happened. Yesa started a new polocy of a surcharge for orders under 5 units. They tack on another $ 100. I think I am able to order without a surcharge since I am a customer. I need to confirm that. But it really is lousy. I may sell mine to you If I can replace it for the same price. Need to figure it out if you are serious about getting a pack. Currently the pack is still here in the package just waiting.
Hi Jeff. I am interested. Give me a call if you can and we can discuss it further. I am at 510-236-5232
My source for high rate lead acid type batteries has put the size I use (12Volt 10.5 amp)on major backorder, so it is encouraging me even more to look at alternatives, even rather expensive ones. If you get a chance, measure that dimension YESA says is 120mm and see what you get.
Andy
The battery pack is 53/4" wide, 3.5" height and about 11" long The height can be modified if you change the location of the BMS. It will take about 14" off. Ill call during day. kind of bussy at work.
