I'm working on a solar charger for 12Volt Nimh packs..
if its only going to trickle charge would I still need to use a voltage regulator ?
or could i just hook the panel up straight to the battery pack.

nimh will float at under c/10 but how will you know when your batteries are charged? Temp cutoff circuit is one idea but it will only work if the charge current is high enough to produce a temperature rise.
would you even need that ?
Nimh batteries are a bit forgiving when it comes to over charging
if its just a trickle from a solar cell.
