L_EV Challange: Goal 40+mph, under 2hp, curb weight of under 80pounds, 7mile range

I have a couple parts that can be used and last night I noticed that my collection of gel cells are getting unhappy not being used. I need to make a new bike. as soon as I find a frame to use and have it prepped I will post my entry into this Challange.

Main goal:
40mph and higher

Specs the bike has to fall in are:
2hp(1.5kw) Max motor size
has to be under 80 pounds curb weight
should have a near 7 mile range

I challange all of you to make a fun project bike. total cost for the build should be around $400, so it will be a cheep fun project...PM me if any of the Vmembers want in on this. There even may be a prize if a lot of people show intrest in the challange.

Re: L_EV Challange: Goal 40+mph, under 2hp, curb weight of under

this is a bike with a 1375watt motor running at 48volts@80amps(battery power) peak on take off. I am also running a modded 50amp48volt controller that was refitted with larger caps and high amp mosfetts. Now the controller has a 100+amp peak and really makes a bigger gain on the grassy hills in the video. The bike can maintain 18-20mph on grass with a 13/80 gearing and with a 18/80 gearing I had it topping out at 39mph on radar.

2hp is a lot of power even at low RPM's it took out my rear tire

With this small motor set up, the bikes and scooter are nimble enough for even driveway racing

!!!Warning!!!

This is my warning video to all that want to rush on the install! If you use low end controllers with out safety's in them for this one reason: Mess up on your wires because you over look your power wires properly......Fry time!

This was a couple months back, I was doing a fast intall in under 5min. to show the basics and show how easy it really is. To bad I messed her up bad, LOL! If you listen you can hear the Mosfetts pop in the end of the video.
