Efun-C/D test ride

Today was a day off, meant to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, and Sun does have today as a holiday. I did listen to the Democracy Now tribute this morning (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929-1968). But that left the rest of the day.. so after seeing my chiropractor I went to find this store where supposedly I could buy a replacement chain. But the address I had ended up being in the middle of a residential neighborhood, ... but .. it was near Gio's shop, and I'd been meaning to go see him for some time. Gio is one of the V members, he does motorcycle racing, has a shop in San Jose selling parts and stuff for motorcycle racers, and also has the EV bug. He has two Efun-D's and an Efun-C as well as a small selection of Li-ION batteries and some bicycle hub motors and a few other things. He's got a bike started on conversion using the El Ninja plans.

Anyway.. the Efun's..

The Efun-C is about the same size as my EVT-4000 and the body styling is a clone of the Vespa. The hub motor is 2000 watts and has the same two speed shifter that I've seen y'all have pictures from the XM-2000. There's buttons on the dash to select between the settings. It rides pretty well and has slightly more power than my EVT-4000.

The Efun-D is larger with body styling vaguely like the Vectrix. It's a bit smaller than the Vectrix and the motor is only 3000 watts. It definitely has more pick up and go power. I felt the throttle was a little eager in that it seemed there was not a setting for creeping along, instead you twist the throttle and it takes off.

They both appeared well made and solid but of course I didn't tear them down and take a look at the innards.

What about speed, range, etc.? Did you get a chance to test those, or get that info from Gio? How does it handle? Did either have the Lithium batteries?

Re: Efun-C/D test ride

I was just riding it around a parking lot and it was wet out anyway, so there wasn't much room to get it up to full speed. Both got to 30 miles/hr easily -- well, 30 miles/hr on the speedometer, dunno how accurate that is. And I didn't ask about range.

The ones I rode had lead-acid batteries but he has a -D model with lithium pack. For some reason it wasn't ridable, he did bring it out of the shop but didn't like how it rode so maybe it was uncharged.

They both handle very well, I was easily able to do tight maneuvers etc.

Yeah, that's why most scooter vendors have a restraining order on usatracy - he doesn't have your will power...

Re: Efun-C/D test ride

It was nice to finally meet you, David.
Too bad the weather wasn't better, so you could do a full test ride. (with helmet and the actual street instead of the parking lot).

I did do a GPS top speed of 54 mph on the D model and that wasn't at optimal full charge yet. so pretty confident the D can do 55mph+

I'm just so stress on time at the race track, that sadly my EV scooter has been neglected since I took shipment in November.

The KMX kart is selling well and i have alot of lithium toys to play with when my schedule allows it.

See ya next time.

Hi Doncristol,
Those bike just look like the efun D model.
Maybe there is a minor difference in the internals, but I doubt much is different.
Did you test the Lithium model?
That's where the fun begin. I have two in stock. one DEMO and one in the crate.

Re: Efun-C/D test ride

Gio,

Why is your bike listed as a EVG3000 and not an E-Fun D? The insurance form I filled out before I rode the EWI bike listed it as a E-Fun E380. The main difference is supposed to be the controller and the fact that it has ABS brakes.

Re: Efun-C/D test ride

Gio,

Why are you having your bike governed to 30 mph? Also, what is your expected range at top speed?

Thanks.

Re: Efun-C/D test ride

DC,
I relabelled to my own designation. EVG3000 signifying 3000 watt motor.
and it's governed in CA so that it can be registered with DMV under the electric powered bicycle law that they have going here.

I know there's alot of grey area with any electric scooter, but I haven't been to DMV with these to test the water yet.
I consult with a business friends who's selling other high powered EV scooter, but have yet to registered any of mine DEMO model yet.

I didn't have a big issue with custom bringing them in as electric ride on scooter, so I'm hoping I don't have to jump thru many hoops at DMV.
