AS someone who loves going fast, go-karts, and race cars in general I was wondering what people kinew about Amature EV racing groups.
What sort of EV racing groups are there out there?
Are there any geared towards amatures?
Any E-bike racing groups?
Anything in the north east?
I know about NEDRA, but drag racing isn't my cup of tea. I prefer F1 style stuff with lots of hairpin turns, as well as off road type stuff. I'm curious to see what there is out there.
As far as I know, nothing of the sort exists. What little there is of EV racing is centered around vehicle performance (drag races, endurance races, etc.). Not really my style, either. We mused about getting an ebike racing thing together over on Endless-Sphere, but nothing has come of it yet.
If I ever get some money together, I might build a performance electric go kart and take it to the indoor track I've see like 15 miles from where I live (So-Cal). Smoke the gassers 8).

Yeah. See that was the sort of thing I was thinking. I should check what sort of places like that there are around me, and if that would even be allowed.
I mean when you think about it the flat torque curve of an electric motor is very well suited for racing, either as the primary means of propulsion or as part of a hybrid system.
Also it would work well with small transmission with medium-widely spaced gears, because the motor is good over a wide range of RPMs. With all the torque you can convert it to speed with the right gearing.
And E-bike racing would definetely rock as it would be sort of a combination of traditional motorsport type skills along with physical fitness. Very neat.
I watched an EV 1/4 mile oval track race in Northern California 14 years ago! I am sure it is still happening, but perhaps not that widespread yet. I know a friend who does autocrossing (parking lot racing) and he told me they outlawed electric cars from whatever sanctioning body he was involved with because they were winning to many events.
