Waterproofing and removable battery.

OK. I have my full suspension mountain bike that I intend to use for the project.

I intend to use a crystalite pheonix hub motor, 2 sets of 48v 10 AH LiFEPO4 batteries wired in a parralell circut (because I've heared the batteries have trouble putting out high amperage) from pingpong along with the included charger, and a standard crystalite controller.

Now, I have two questions:

First, what would it take to go to 60 volts, and how much speed would the extra 1/2 HP give me?

Second, I want to make it so I can easily unplug the battery pack and bring it inside. I live in an apartment over a shop, and my bike is stoored on public bike rack by the local post office. As of now I have 2 locks on it (Whenever it gets electrified I'm putting a 3ed lock on it, probably a new-york lock) and the motor will be on the back wheel and be locked firmly in place to both the frame and the bike rack, but the battery would be easy game of left out. Also I have to where to charge the battery outside, so making it removable is a good idea.

I was wondering what sort of wiring I'd need to have the removable battery? I'd like to just be able to simply secure the battery, plug it in, and go (at least after I unlock it).

Lastly, as the bike is stoored on a public bike rack it is exposed to lots of rain. I was wondering what are ways I could protect the wiring and motor from the water? I was thinking some sort of bike cover, but I also want the wiring itself to be somewhat water resistant.

Re: Waterproofing and removable battery.

Disconnecting the battery can be easily done with a high-power connector. I would use an anderson PP45 connector which would allow for 10 AWG wiring, which I'm assuming is what your bike wiring is?

I don't think anything is necessary to protect the motor from water. It looks like it is fully sealed, and painted. I would worry about the hardware and exposed steel (like brake cables) corroding. It may be helpful to take any steel hardware on the bike and motor out and fully coat it with a light grease like lithium grease. And coat any exposed steel except the chain with a light grease.

To protect the wiring my concern would be any exposed wire or connectors. I would coat all of these with lithium grease. You could also use a dielectric grease, but I think the resistance of the lithium grease is high enough not to have to worry.

Re: Waterproofing and removable battery.

So basically Grease up all the exposed corrodeble metal parts with lithium grease? That sounds pretty easy.

Also, what about the controller and going up to 60 volts?
