I have an 2003 EVT 168. It has new batteries and only has 49 miles on it so it is basically new. My problem is that it won 't turn on. I checked the fuse in by the controller (yellow inline) and replced it but every time I turn on the ignition the fuse blows again. Any ideas?

Are any of the normal startup sounds made by the bike? I believe you have experience with the EVT's, if I recall correctly your history.

None not even a flicker of lights. The fuse just vaporizes every time I replacer it and put a new one in.

Not good.. I suppose you've checked the battery pack and the voltage is fine all the way to the controller?
I've never opened one of these controllers myself but I did watch Todd @ electricmotorsport open one and it's not terribly hard. I would think the issue is inside the controller. I would think that the fuse vaporizing right away indicates there's a hard short inside the controller.

I was afraid it might be inside the controller. I have three of these scooters so I will try and switch controllers and see what happens.
I have been out of the scooter loop for a while now as I have been concentrating on the ZAP cars and trucks but with spring here, it's time to get back into scooters.

Befor we ASSUME ,, check for a short some ware , Is the fuse on a small wire? or big power wire? fallow the line from the fuse thru the switch and on ,untill you can't go any farther without taking anything apart! the switch,controller,converter, brake , a rub or pinch or loose wire lift any - or ground from the frame! move the controler and or the convertor around,loose from the body ! If you spend 3-4hr first you might save wheeks !! check for continuity if it is a small fuse it is not the power ,its in the acc. circut ! Did it get wet?? because it "vaporizes" as to just a fissk Look at DIRECT short not electronic ! Later

Turns out my problem was a bad DC to Dc converter. I switched it out with another one and no more vaporized fuse.
