repair question on Extreme 500 scooter

I know all you smart scooter heads will be kind enough to help me with a problem I am having with my Extreme 500 scooter. I bought the scooter used with the problem already installed. I have replaced the throttle and also bought a new controller from Extreme but I am getting the same result. With everything hooked up the left handle bar readout indicates it has power to it. But that's where it stops. I have run direct to the motor so it I know it runs. But what am I missing? am i supposed to take the new throttle apart? I have tried it with the throttle/brake kill feature hooked and unhooked. I tested bike with a 36 volt battery.Help so I can quit badmouthing myself. Thankss.

Re: repair question on Extreme 500 scooter

Put a voltmeter on the plug that goes to the motor with the motor unhooked. When you hit the throttle, it should show voltage going through varied by how much throttle you give it. If there is power, you might just have the motor wired backwards or something. I'm sorry if it was just backwards and you've gone through all this trouble. Also, are you sure you've got a 36v controller? It will say on the back if it is. There should be a way to check the continuity on the throttle to make sure it's working. I hope you get this work out.

I bent my wheel, broke my trans, and blew my motor. Now I cry a lot.

Re: repair question on Extreme 500 scooter

According to xtreme's website, the scooter takes 48v or 4 batteries. If you are trying to get it to run with 3, then it may not work due to the controller low-voltage cutout. 3 batteries fully charged might measure 39v, and the controller cutout may be around 10v/battery or 40v.

You'll either need to get a 36v controller, or add another 12v battery to the circuit.

Re: repair question on Extreme 500 scooter

I did as suggested. I hooked up 4 12volt 12ah batteries and it did the same as before. Power to the on/off switch was there and the indicater light came on, but no power coming through to the motor. I checked the battery wiring. The black and red wires from the controller are wired to the batteries. The blue and yellow ( I believe?) go to the the controller? Half of me wants it to be something as easy and half wants it to be something else which would spare me the chuckles from the peanut gallery and the required fitting of a dunce cap.
I hooked up the multimeter and suggested and It did not show any voltage coming from the wires going to motor. Any other thoughts?

I just wanted to point out that the stock x-500 is supposed to have Four 12 volt 9 amp batteries.
That's what it says here http://www.x-tremescooters.com/electric_scooters/x500/parts.html.

The on/off switch is supposed to turn on the controller, which in turn will read the throttle and send power to the motor. Sounds to me like a basic wiring problem. A bad connector, pinched wire?

Re: repair question on Extreme 500 scooter

I had given up on this scooter. But I stand corrected. the batteries are 9ah-4 of them. I checked continuity on the wires and they all seemed ok. I hate to ask, but is there a website that has a trouble shooting procedure on this scoot? One used and one new throttle, one controller that was on the bile, one controller that was working on a friends bike that he lent me and a new controller from extreme. The only thing I can definitively say thats works is the motor cause it kicked over when I put juice to it. batteries are all good.

Re: repair question on Extreme 500 scooter

Hi..
I am not sure if you still have problem with the X-500. Maybe you might want to check the fuse holder. When you turn on power switch, beside the light on the switch itself, you should see another two LED lights on the throttle controller side also, one is red and one is green. If you only see the red LED light, it's mean the fuse is blow or is not in the circuit. Check the wire connection on the back of the fuse holder itself. This fuse holder is tended to break and you might not notice it. To get it run, you must have both LED light on. Good Luck with those..

Why not just open up a Trouble Ticket on X-Treme's site? Couldn't hurt.

Or email me and I'll open one up for you.
