Thoughts on this battery pack 48v 13ah Nimh

It seems like a really good deal for $480. I plan on using something this size for my 407motor setup.

NOT

This battery pack does not have the required current capability to operate an e-bike. I would need 3 of these to run my e-bike and it only draws 25-amps. This pack is only rated for 10-amps. If you tried to use it on an e-bike you would let the magic smoke out is only a couple of uses.
That's a lot of for a smoke bomb.

Ping 48v 20 ah. But of course you can't get one till the party (olyimpics) in china ends. Or you could be a guina pig for us on the cells with the gecko on em.

Re: Thoughts on this battery pack 48v 13ah Nimh

This is what Chas is referring to:-

- Highest Discharging rate for continuous running: 10Amp
- Max. Discharging rate for short time: 15Amp

These ratings are important to pay attention to.

Last time I looked the Batteryspace equivalent to this pack had higher discharge ratings and was also based on F cells (from a different maker). Some had in the past used the Batteryspace F based pack with success on crystalyte setups.

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2538

# Standard discharging rate: 13Amp (Recommended and warrantied)
# Highest discharging rate for continuous running: 40Amp (high discharging rate will protect battery capacity )
# Max. discharging capability for short time: 60Amp (not recommend as working rate ). We are not liable for any damage caused by user.

Hm, that's still a bit marginal.

I am confused by this spec, since the Tenergy cells in the all-battery pack are rated for 40 amp continuous discharge and 60 amp pulse.

Is this a typo? Someone should check with All-Battery on this one.

Re: Thoughts on this battery pack 48v 13ah Nimh

does doesn't it if they are the F cells 1400ah. the pack ratings might just be because of the gauge wiring they use and to cover their rear ends so people don't think these packs are good for continuous 20amp plus. I think the nimh f cells are fine and steady in the 5amp to 13amp range with occasional peaks to 20 or so - enough for me. maybe you could up the voltage more so to keep your amp load more within those parameters is one solution.

Re: Thoughts on this battery pack 48v 13ah Nimh

Ian,

The idea of upping the voltage to lower the current is a good one but in this case the current draw is regulated by your controller. If you do not change the current regulation in the controller it will still pull the same amount of current even at the higher voltage. Raising the voltage too far will also cause the controller to smoke so as this seems to be a good idea and it sounds correct in reality it will not work.

I doubt the wiring used in the battery pack is why they lowered the specifications of the current capabilities. I think the cells are the reason for the lower specifications. Maybe you are really looking at 2 different cells, not sure.
