HCF / Pacelite 707 Motor & Controller Upgrade QUESTIONS

Iv'e had my HCF 707 scooter for a few years, and its the best scoot i have had. I use it every day for 2-5 miles. I hit a mud patch and the thing fried... smoke coming out of the battery box area. I want to UPGRADE the Motor, Controller, and poosibly go to NiMH batteries.
ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS UPGRADE / HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I'd REALLY appreciate any help / advice / experience you may have.
Thanks, Jim

Hi BELS, I do not have that much experience with Ev's (only a little) but,
just out of curiosity; what type of controller do you currently have??
I have also done a lot of reading on the forum and it seems as though Kelly controllers are the best.
Then again that is my opinion. Currently the project that I have been working on for the Elite conversion---
it does have a brand new Kelly controller (which is quite powerful). The controller that was on there previously
was also bought brand new and it didn't work, I think it might have been a Curtis controller (don't remember).
The Kelly controller was also kind of a funky lookin' box that the top part of it reminded me of an air filter.

Re: HCF / Pacelite 707 Motor & Controller Upgrade QUESTIONS

I would recommend getting this motor/controller from Powerpack Motors.

http://www.powerpackmotors.com./Powerpack-enhanced-shipping_included.html

It is a brushless DC motor that has good power. It can be run at 24 up to 48 Volts. Because it is brush less you may need to get a new throttle as well.

Why do I recommend it?

Well the motor is small enough that you should be able to fit it into the frame of the 707 with out having to modify the frame much (just a mounting bracket maybe).

If you want NiMH you could get them here

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=258

But if you are upgrading you might as well get LiFePO4

You can get them here

http://www.yesa.com.cn/product_pack.asp

Or Look on ebay for the Ping battery (seller Pingping227) they are cheaper, much discussion on the quality of these though see this thread from endless-sphere

I'm now looking to do a similar upgrade. Care to share how yours went, replacement parts used, etc.?

Thanks,
