My Bike has been cutting out when going up hills so I bought it 2 new batteries from BatterySpec. The batteries were advertised for Merida 550 Powerbikes so I figured the would be what I needed. They are (2) 12V 9ah batteries by Tempest. They are a lot smaller than the Long batteries that were in there. Do you think they will work and the cutting out on hills is that the battery? The old batteries would only charge t0 50%. :)

Support V is for Voltage
It should, sounds like the old batteries were toast, but you will have less range than before. Voltage sag was likey causing low voltage cut off.

Your bike is 24V? 9Ah isn't really a lot of energy (12V x 2 x 9 Ah = .216 kWh). Your range might only be 5 miles if you're lucky or a bit more if you're pedaling along with it.
You might want to explore trying to get a bit more energy into the system by installing a bigger battery pack.
Putting a voltmeter on your system would let you know if your voltage is dropping on hills. If the voltage dropped to less than 21V while pulling you, it might be triggering the low-voltage cutoff. A voltmeter is really cheap, about $5 at HarborFreight or other tool importer.

I think I misread the post. I got the idea your original batteries were 12 ah. If you new ones are the same ah as the old ones, you should see similar range to when they were new.

Well we carved the battery case up and put the two new batteries in and Voila I am cruising hills again. I only took it about 3 miles today and I have 75% battery power left according to my little meter. I will keep you posted. Thanks all for the input. I would appreciate any further helpfull hints I can get.

Glad to hear you are back up and running again. What size batteries did you use? I know when I switched to 12AH on my Merida the range went to about 13 miles range during normal use. Now that I have switched it to 36-volts I can go farther faster.
