XM-3000 - Insured, Registered & Plated!

Summary: SUCCESSFUL hassle free registration and titling in MICHIGAN.

Just wanted to let folks know I now have my XM-3000 insured and registered as a Motorcycle here in Michigan.

- Insurance $146.85 per year from State Farm (I have all my policies through them).
- Registration Fee: $30
- Title Fee: $10
- Tax: $164.94

At the insurance company they just wanted to know the VIN, make and model.

At the SoS I provided a copy of my sales receipt, I handed over the MCO and provided proof of insurance. There was a little bit of discussion over "zero cc" - but it didn't meet the other moped attributes because the MCO states 3.5hp and Michigan has a 2.0hp limit. Other than that there was no issue - registration process was very easy.

Note, as a motorcycle you need a Cycle Operator (CY) endorsement on your license.

Would others please post when they've registered their bikes, or have been refused registration for any reason. Please state your STATE and whether it was SUCCESS or FAILURE. I hope to build up a list of which states folks have had success or failure with this process.

Thanks!

(there's a typo in the above - tax should be $119.94 - total at SoS was $164.94)

Success in Virginia! Yesterday I was able to obtain new Virginia title and registration on this scooter with little hassle. The only question that was asked of me is whether this is a scooter or motorcycle. I answered motorcycle because of the speed capability (over 35 in this state is considered motorcycle) - but it ends up still being printed on my title as a "motor scooter" with a gas engine. I didn't even realize it showed gas engine until last night when I was filing the title away at home. No one asked and I didn't volunteer that this is an electrically-propelled device. Today I get to put up with strange looks as I take it to a inspection station (required by the state) and then off to haggle with my insurance agent...

Re: XM-3000 - Insured, Registered & Plated!

Hi Everyone -- I'm new on this forum!

I've been riding my new XM-3000 for a couple weeks now (150 km)...

- Registered in CA through mail ($17, they just needed the VIN)
- Plate and registration arrived in the mail within 1 week
- Insured through Progressive ($134), although they still don't have the mfgr/model right

Commuted to work (10 mi round trip) 7 times now...no problems, but major slowing on the final hill (1 mile, 15-18% grade). At least I can charge it as soon as I get home.
