My XB-600 is here!

Congrats, Laurie!!!
So you know, the back brake is on the left grip and the front brake is on the right grip, and yes, the FRONT brake is VERY grabby. Adjust your back brake up by turning the long nut sticking out the back to the right maybe 1/2 to 1 turn and rely more on it with assist from the front brake. This seems to smooth the stopping.

I received my XB-600 today and it arrived in PERFECT condition!!!

The small rubber thing is for the rear box storage to be placed between the plastic and the metal cargo rack.

I received my XB-600 today and it arrived in PERFECT condition!!! As another poster said, it was double boxed. Nothing was broken! Yeah! We have an extra rubber washer we don't know where it goes and some kind of weird shaped rubber floormat? It's like around 6" x 8". Absolutely no idea what it's for.

Anyway, I'm having a blast! I'm not in any hurry to do the mods. I think the bike is plenty fast for me. I was going at least 25 mph down a small incline and 15-20 up that same incline. I did have some slow down trying to cross a busy arterial from a stop.

I'm curious about other XB-600 owners...are the rear brakes really grabby? Mine really grab...so much I try to use the front brakes more. Other than that, I'm a happy camper!

I believe the grabbiness you are experiencing when you lightly squeeze the right brake is actually the motor braking being activated. You will notice that the speedometer goes to zero when you squeeze the right brake, which is because it has to be disconnected (electrically) to apply the motor brake.

i am not positive about this, but I think that is what you are experiencing,

I think the round rubber washer is intended to go on the front wheel against the wheel bearing before installing the drum brake assembly. I cant really be sure because it is not documented or in the parts diagram. Even though the wheel bearing is sealed I believe that is where it goes. In any case that is where I put mine. It made sense to me due to the brake dust that accumilates in drum brakes.

Congrats on your XB!!!! It is a lot of fun isn't it?

Regarding the brakes it takes a lot of adjustment before you get them just right. Keep playing with it and you will get something you can live with. IMHO brakes are not the greatest on these bikes but they do the job if you tweak enough.

Make sure you put the rubber gasket under the rear trunk. It will save you a lot of rattle and squeaking noises when you go over a bump.

Yes, the brakes are grabby, as we were discussing in another topic, but contrary to Rob's advice I have not been able to make even the slightest difference in that with any adjustments; I don't believe that "motor brake" is adjustable. Yes, it's annoying.

My only troubles have been a bad throttle (quickly replaced) and just today, the battery charger went. Grr! We'll see how fast they replace that. Until they do, I'm grounded.

I agree that the breaks will always be "grabby" but I've been able to adjust the tension on the brakes so that I can limit the "grab" to acceptable levels. As Zerogas pointed out if you turn the nut at the end of the brake line (at the wheel) you can adjust the tension on the brake and even out the pressure to some extent.

The "motor kill" braking system they use on these bikes is required by law but its not exactly elegantly engineered.

The right brake lever activates the front friction brake and the rear motor brake. Motor braking is accomplished by shorting out the motor, causing dynamic braking by the motor. It's jerky, but it will not lock up your wheel, and it will not wear out your brake pads.
