Hi,
I have received my allocation of 30 of the Smart Spark Energy BEQ-LA-5-100 battery balancers.
This is an active balancer that will keep 5 lead acid batteries in balance. As noted in numerous places keeping batteries in balance helps extend their life (or perhaps a better way of stating this is if you don't balance you will kill your batteries sooner).
The price is $219 plus shipping and handling.
I don't have the website up yet - I'm waiting for instruction manuals and warranty information. But if you want to buy one now drop me a line.
Customers who have already purchased an XM-3000 from me will receive a large discount. Future customers will also receive a large discount.
More information about the product can be found here: http://www.smartsparkenergy.com/BattEQ_for_Lead_Acid_Batteries.aspx (note that this site mentions a BEQ-LA-5-50, but that product is no longer available, the LA-5-100 is the model suitable for installing on an XM-3000, EVTA Z/R/20 etc.)
A competitor of mine has decided to start a price war - splashing a lower price on this forum and all over his company run forum. I suspect that the original post on this forum is another one of his pseudonyms.
Note, $219 is the MSRP for this product as set by the dealer. My supplier (a long time Smart Spark Energy Systems distributor) asked me not to advertise below MSRP. I understand and respect that position. That is how I set my price. I don't know how the competitor set their initial (pre-sale) price which was $40 above MSRP.
A price war hurts us dealers, it benefits some of you consumers. For others, it's a false savings. I respect your intelligence enough to not have to explain why. I'm not going to beguile you with jacking up prices and then slashing them lower.
I do have flexibility in pricing. If you're concerned about doing business with the other guy but don't feel you can justify paying MSRP to protect your battery investment then feel free to drop me a line or call me and we can discuss the situation.
I apologize for the antics of other dealers in this field. It ends up reflecting badly on all of us.

Well I wish you posted this info in the xm-3000 forum (the only one I really look at, since that is the bike i have). I bought one from the other guy because as far as I knew he was the only one selling them (not because the price was lower). I would gladly have bought it from you.
TechSkeptic - sorry about that. I have to be careful where I can post outright advertisements like this. Folks get unhappy if informational sections change into infomercials or straight commercials.
Dealer Deals is the place they're supposed to go. Which is also where my competitor posted his price. Did you see his post on this site? If so, then I guess I just got unlucky and you saw his in the "active" list after mine had slid into oblivion?
I certainly can't (and don't) blame anyone for comparison shopping. It's just an awkward situation that my competitor has placed me in. It's the "risk" part of the "risk vs. reward" of being a dealer.
Good luck with your balancer.

Buy from John, we need more dealers like him and less like the other guy!

Send it back, just like WalMart. :)

I wouldn't pay a dime over $174.99 for a BEQ-LA-5-100. TechSkeptic, didn't, why would anyone else.

Sorry folks - I've returned my stock. No, Philip, I'm not afraid of "healthy competition" - but I'm not interested in a p*ss*ng competition (sorry if that phrase offends anyone) with someone who's stated intent is to make me look like a "jackass". Yes, I know a lot of folks that say I don't need any help for that!
But back to BEQ-LA-5-100's as far as I know the only place you can now buy these units is at Nova Scooters. According to their front page they are currently charging $249.99 - not the $174.99 that Philip feels is the only price to pay (but he got his for "free").
I sincerely hope Nova Scooters have another sale - but in a free market they can charge what they want.
You can also try contacting Smart Spark Energy Systems and asking them if they have any other distributors for this product.
