I just received my first E-bike kit. It is a WE BL-36 and came with a 50a controller. I ordered it without the battery pack and am currently building a NiCad pack, but will be using SLA's in the meantime. I noticed on the controller there is an extra 2 pin plug that is labeled for an accessory. Anyone know what this can be used for?

Ebrake
Thanks. I suspected that it might be for that, but I have not read anything on the forums about anyone adding them to a WE setup, and have not found any WE brand e-brakes at any of the WE dealers. Do all of the E-brakes use a 2 pin plug. I assume they are wired as a pair .?.
Anyway, can anyone recommend a good set? I am putting this kit on a Bridgestone MB2 and the brake lever's on it are great. I have read bad reviews of some of the E-brakes that come with various brand kits.

Try these guys. They may have replacement brakes for the EZ Bikes. Otherwise, I've only seen them in C-lyte complete kits.

In case you were thinking that, ebrakes do not give you regenerative braking, just a throttle kill when you put on brakes so you don't stall the motor. WE seems to think we are smart enought to stop putting on throttle when we grab the brakes. Golden does not.

The ebrake connection kills the motor because it is required by law in some states. I'm not sure, but I think a switch to kill motor power when brakes are applied is required in all states.

That's not the case in Oregon at least. Ain't no lawyer but have looked at local laws, just so I know where I stand, and have seen nothing like this. BTW, Oregon seems to have pretty good laws re ebikes. At least compared to some.
If such a law were in effect here, I'd be a frequent offender. In my car, there are some windy parts of my travels where I heel-and-toe on a regular basis.
But to the OP, I also have a couple of wires dangling that I've no idea what to connect to. I'll watch this thread with interest.

"...operates in a manner so that the electric motor is disengaged or ceases to function when the brakes are applied, or operates in a manner such that the motor is engaged through a switch or mechanism that, when released, will cause the electric motor to disengage or cease to function."
Copied from California regs
Depends on the state, in NM electric bikes pretty much don't exist in the statutes yet. We're still mopeds, and its fuzzy if my bike is a motor vehicle or not if it goes less than 20 mph.

I'm no lawyer, but I think you might be mistaken about California regs. You state:
"...operates in a manner so that the electric motor is disengaged or ceases to function when the brakes are applied, or operates in a manner such that the motor is engaged through a switch or mechanism that, when released, will cause the electric motor to disengage or cease to function."

The first part of your quote definately describes a 'kill switch' but after the word 'or' it states:
or operates in a manner such that the motor is engaged through a switch or mechanism that, when released, will cause the electric motor to disengage or cease to function."
To me, the word 'mechanism' can describe a throttle. It stands to reason when you think about it, because most kits sold legally in California, such as Wilderness Energy, do not have a switch that 'automatically' kills the motor when the brakes are applied.
I read that one the same way, stops if you let go. Ebrakes can be good on bigger motors so you don't brake and throttle at the same time, blowing stuff. I find the WE brushed controller trips when you need it to pretty reliably.
