Ebrake

Try these guys. They may have replacement brakes for the EZ Bikes. Otherwise, I've only seen them in C-lyte complete kits.

In case you were thinking that, ebrakes do not give you regenerative braking, just a throttle kill when you put on brakes so you don't stall the motor. WE seems to think we are smart enought to stop putting on throttle when we grab the brakes. Golden does not.

The ebrake connection kills the motor because it is required by law in some states. I'm not sure, but I think a switch to kill motor power when brakes are applied is required in all states.

That's not the case in Oregon at least. Ain't no lawyer but have looked at local laws, just so I know where I stand, and have seen nothing like this. BTW, Oregon seems to have pretty good laws re ebikes. At least compared to some.

If such a law were in effect here, I'd be a frequent offender. In my car, there are some windy parts of my travels where I heel-and-toe on a regular basis.

But to the OP, I also have a couple of wires dangling that I've no idea what to connect to. I'll watch this thread with interest.

Depends on the state, in NM electric bikes pretty much don't exist in the statutes yet. We're still mopeds, and its fuzzy if my bike is a motor vehicle or not if it goes less than 20 mph.

I'm no lawyer, but I think you might be mistaken about California regs. You state:

The first part of your quote definately describes a 'kill switch' but after the word 'or' it states:

or operates in a manner such that the motor is engaged through a switch or mechanism that, when released, will cause the electric motor to disengage or cease to function."

To me, the word 'mechanism' can describe a throttle. It stands to reason when you think about it, because most kits sold legally in California, such as Wilderness Energy, do not have a switch that 'automatically' kills the motor when the brakes are applied.

I read that one the same way, stops if you let go. Ebrakes can be good on bigger motors so you don't brake and throttle at the same time, blowing stuff. I find the WE brushed controller trips when you need it to pretty reliably.
