Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

My buddy and I have some Stealth 1000s. I know these are common and identical to many other scooters of different names, so I figured someone might have an answer to my question. What do each of the wires do on my controller? I have the 6 pin 36v controller. My girlfriends s350 controller looks the same but is only for 24v. I know what wires go to the motor and battery. But the other two pin, and the 6 pin with yellow, white, green, purple, blue, and black, I'm confused about. The scooter seems to run fine without the 2nd 2 pin connector. I want to cut out the speed limiter, disable the "gas gauge," and I would like to run 48v without having to flip the switch several times. The volt gauge seems not to work at all. The speed limiter shuts me down on most hills around here. I'm going to stay at 36v, but my friend wants to use 48v, and he's having the issues with the flipping on and off of the switch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

By the way, I do not fly down hills at more than 20mph. And I'm installing a small voltmeter as a measurement of available battery power.

Re: Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

The 2 pin connector is the brake inhibit. If disconnected, when you squeeze the brake lever, the motor will keep running.

The 6 pin goes to your throttle. Is your "gas gauge" on the twist throttle? Three lights? If that is not working, you may have an issue with the wires or connecor pins. Check your connections and the pins inside the connectors.

I still remember the first time I coasted down a nice long hill with my Stealth. Got to the bottom to give it some "gas" and ... nuthin'. Restart the controller and all is well again. I would not have a clue as to how to disable that feature.

Upping to 48V should probably be okay for the motor for awhile, but I would be concerned for the life of the 36V stock controller. Of course, if he burns it up by overvolting, he can get a 48V controller without speed limiter. Where's he putting the 4th battery? 10Ah?

Re: Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

I knew the 6 pin went to the throttle and gauge. It has the three lights. Everything is working the way it was designed, but that's not what I want. My buddy and I are going to cap each wire one at a time to see if we can find the wire for the "gas gauge." I'm not worried about the life of the motor, they aren't that expensive and I'm wanting to put an etek on at some point. The batteries are the stock 12v 10ah. I'm going to go for a lifepo4 pack that has 36v 15ah or the 20ah. I'm more considered with distance than anything else.

If I can get a diagram of the PCB, that would be great. If I can figure everything out, I'll post it. It will most likely be my buddy that figures it out though. He's better at electronics, but I like to think I'm the cooler metal fabricator. We can argue about that for awhile. I made a 31cc scooter from a 2 foot long 100w scooter. Bottom line, I have a dremel, a grinder, lots of black duct tape, ~200 zip ties, gorilla glue, and a mig welder, and I will make it work one way or another. fun fun
Thanks for the help

I bent my wheel, broke my trans, and blew my motor. Now I cry a lot.

Re: Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

I have more issues with the controller. My buddy got the 48v lifepo back, and I'm jealous. So I have to run my 48v pack now. I have a 48v 12ah pack that I'm going to use. I'm also making a 60v 10ah pack to use. Lucky for me, these end up being almost the same size. The 60v pack is a little bigger, but not to the point that it's a real problem. My question is, is there any way my stock 36v controller is going to handle the 60v? I'd plug it in and try it, but I'm worried that it will blow as soon as I turn it on.

btw, I have an old RC car that took 7.2 volts when new. I've put a 18.0 volt power tool battery on it. That thing is now officially awesome. It would go about 22-23mph on 7.2v, I have no idea what 18v is going to do. I have a 12v antenna motor from a car I'll put in it when the original motor blows.

I bent my wheel, broke my trans, and blew my motor. Now I cry a lot.

Tireiron,

Any luck with the mods you posted above? Did you figure out how to cut out the speed limiter system?

I have an S350 that I'm going to swap in an S1000's controller system and run it at 36V for now :-).

Re: Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

I messaged you PDenbigh. For everyone else. My mods work great. The DD is really iritating me right now. I need a new one due to the extra power I put through it. I really wish I had a chain drive. The speed limiter won't kick in if it's chain drive. I used a different controller, so I didn't have to worry about it anyway.

I bent my wheel, broke my trans, and blew my motor. Now I cry a lot.

TireIron,

Can you share your findings with the wire colors? I'm installing a 48V controller in my S1000 and it would be really helpful to know which of the 6 wires are the throttle.

Thanks a bunch,
Peter

Nevermind, figured it out. Black, Red, Blue control the throttle. Green, Yellow, Grey control the fuel gauge.

Re: Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

Even after the last post, I'm afraid that I need help with the throttle wiring. My Stealth's throttle has 7 wires going into a 6 pin connector (The black, red and blue mentioned as being for the throttle plus the green, yellow and gray mentioned as being for the "fuel gauge" plus a white wire that *looks* like it shares a connector pin with the red wire under the connector's sealant). That leaves me with two questions: If it's the black, red and blue wires from the throttle I need to use, which one of them connects to which of the red, black and green wires on the yi-yun yk42-4 48V controller? Also, what happens to the white wire? I know a couple of you guys have done this conversion to 4 or 5 batteries, and I could really use some help. Even without considering the white wire, three wires to three wires is six possible combinations and there's not alot of room or wire to work with.

Re: Schwinn Stealth 1000w controller issues

Hello,
My Mongoose scooter does this same exact thing that you mention... I have to "reset" it by flipping the main power switch off then back on again every 25 feet I ride...then I have to do it again..
I called currietech and they first told me I needed $75 worth of new batteries after I explained this thing to them it is doing.
SO .....
I WASTED $75 thanks to them because NOTHING changed...still every 25 feet I must reset because everything dies..the green light on the throttle goes from bright geen all the way down past yellow and to red and everything dies...then I flip the switch off and on...then everything is fine agian and the light on the throttle is bright green again....
NOW...when I call Currietech the second time...they tell me I need to replace the "controller"...but since it is a SIX pin controller and also a six pin throttle....that I must buy not only a new different pin controller fot $20, but that I must also buy a new throttle for $50...so the pins will match...because they no longer sell a six pin controller...and I cannot of course connect a five pin new controller to my old six pin throttle
WTF? are they jacking me around again like they did about the $75 worth of new batteries that I did NOT need?
Or is this correct? I must now spend another ... I have been searching independent sources on the web...and the six pin controller only seems to run around $45 new...I cannot find one used anywhere.... I imagine there are thousands of these things sitting in people's garages all over the USA with bad batteries...why can't I find a used controller for sale or does anyone know where I can?
BUT MORE importantly...is this my true problem will fix this now? The conttoler to replace it and finally it will stop doing this annoying thing of shutting down every 10 seconds that I am on the ride down the sidewalk...? Because I no longer trust Currietech to tell me the truth...only to sell me something that I do not need only....to stuff their own pockets by giving bad advice.
Please help me out with the cheapest solution possible to fix this thing, as I paid little for it used and am disabled TRYING in vain to live on my social security check.. Congress gave themself a large raise, but for me, even though I paid into S.S. all my life with much taken out of my payecheck...they voted that I cannot even have a cost of living raise in mine..ha ha ha
what applies to the represented, should also apply to the representatives..
I digress... I found some hope in Tireiron55's post here when he said his was doing the same thing, yet he did not say he must change his expensive controller... maybe CUrrie was wrong again>? I HOPE
OR if they were right this time..this time....can I rebuild my controller with a soldering iron and a Radio shack catalog for much less than $40 that is the cost of a new controller for mine.
Please offer any opinions on the matter,
I appreciate your time to read...and if so, also an advisement.
THank you very much,
Perry in FLORIDA
