I adventuously, if not foolishly am installing a mars brushless motor on to my substantially modified I-Zip 1000.I previouly had a BMC brushless 1500 watt motor that worked very well. However, having the patience of a fruit fly I am building the motor mount right now, but I was curious as to what size wire to use. I have a Kelly KBL48301 rated at 100 amps continous, and a 48 volt mars. The limiting factor in all of this is the battery supply. I have 4 Universal 22ah batteries to power my soot. I had some power cable from a stereo I had put in a few years back. It is 0/1 gauge and looks like the scooter should be in a comic book with that thick wire coming out to my battery. Any suggestions On the size I should be using?

Ah, this is really about what size wire to use between battery-controller-motor..? If I understand your question right the motor doesn't matter here except to the extent that we know it's a high powered motor.
When I started my Lectra project I was stressing out over wire gauge, too. There are charts out there saying if you're running n amps you need g gauge wire, and with the amps I expected to run on the Lectra it meant using 2/0 wire. Well, I ended up using 4 gauge wire and in many cases the cables are store bought from the local autoparts store. Even though they're a lot smaller than 2/0 wire they're handling the current just fine, and the bike runs at 100-300 amps.
Sounds like you've already got it covered with that stereo cable.
FWIW one day getting ready to ride home from work I found one of the power cables had draped itself over the chain. The chain had chewed halfway through the cable.. turning the 4 gauge cable into..ah..8 gauge at that point? Sheesh. Anyway, worried all the way that the cable would blow up, I carefully redraped the cable elsewhere and gingerly rode home, no problem. And the cable has since been replaced ;-)

Thanks for the reply. The heavy stereo cables have a really think clear insulator that really adds girth to them. It looked ridiculous. Would you change the 8 ga. wiring to the 3 phases to 4 ga.? 8 ga. seems a little small even with the modest battery power. I guess listing the motor would be beneficial. It is a Etek/Mars 3001 brushless. AT 22 lbs. hanging out somewhat I am a little apprehensive as far as the handling and strength of the mild steel swing arm. I keep picturing the intro to the Flinstones where the ribs get placed on the window food tray and the footmobile goes on it's side. But I haven't received the motor yet and my wife hasn't discovered the skunk works withdraw to paypal I made yet. Better to ask forgiveness than permission.
er.. when I had that effective 8 ga it was an accident and yeah 4 ga. is much better.
I do know about this motor and it's a bit over the top for such a small scooter. It's been done before, though. Last year someone built one that he called Widowmaker IIRC.
