LB-37 Controller with a Screw Loose

I have a question concerning a new LB-37 Controller that I just received yesterday. There are 4 screws (two on each side) that apparently hold 'something' on the inside of the case. One of the screws is not completely installed. It sticks out about 1/16" and is wiggly but does not want to fall out.

My question is: Should I try to tighten this screw? I'm afraid if I DO, it may cause a problem inside. I'm afraid if I DON'T, it may cause a problem inside. Any technical assistance would be greatly appreciated. Anyone ever had one of these apart? I'm eager to get it into my scooter, but I want a good working controller when I do. Thanks for your advice and opinions.

Re: LB-37 Controller with a Screw Loose

Hi Harlow,
It looks like those screws probably mount the FETs to the heat sink(finned case). If that's what they are, you'd want to get it tightened.
The risk of not tightening is, as you draw higher currents through the FETs, that FET will be unable to dissipate enough heat since the mechanical connection between the FET and the heat sink is poor, and you could burn-it-up.
While you're in there, put just a bit of threadloc on those nuts so they won't fall off inside and short anything(could get ugly); another reason to open it up and tighten it.
Check the others too.

cheers,

Thanks rossassaurus,

I sent basically the same message to the vendor, so I'll wait to see what they suggest. I'm a little nervous about opening a brand new controller. Not like it's returnable though. If I do open it, I'll take some more pics.

I wouldn't put thread lock on those screws thay connect the small heat sink block inside to the large heatsink case if you threadlock them you will not be able to remove the screws to repair it! Just snug them up good hand tight LaTeR

thank GOD I wake up above ground !!!!
