Batterie Voltages

I have an EVT trike and it has 4x12V 50aH (SLA) batteries in it. When I first go the bike it seemed to have more range new than it does now (450 miles later). I have looked at all of the batteries and they seem to be very well balanced (within a couple of mV) but I noticed a few things and was wondering if it's something I should be concerned about.

When the charger is finished it seems to be on a float voltage of 54.0 volts. After I take the charger off and let the trike sit for a while I measured the pack voltage again and it only measures 53.0 volts. Is this a proper voltage for a full charged pack? Is the float voltage too high/low?

The other think I noticed is that the charger (when new) only went to a solid green state. It now goes to a blinking green state.

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Batterie Voltages

13.2 * 4 = 52.8 ... so you're in the right range. It's normal for a pack voltage to drop a bit after the charger is turned off.

Has the weather gotten cold for you? Could it be cold affecting the battery pack? See my posting from last week about having less range in the morning than in the evening.

Re: Batterie Voltages

David,

I guess the morning commute is a bit cooler than it was before. I live in San Jose, so I think you know how the weather has been. Cooler but not so cold you can't ride yet. Of course around here we don't get cold like many other places.

Thanks for the information on the pack voltage... I thought it was correct but it's nice to get confirmation.
