How do you tell how much you need to charge ur battery for ur motor taking out?

Ok i have an idea of making a go kart run on battery power and charge some with Solar energy.

The motor i'm thinking about getting is...

It is 24V at 300W

I dont know the amps it will take or whatever it will take just to move.

and total with the kart(including extra weight)

Will this motor work or do i need a different one?
(i would like to have solar panels on a roof i'm going to make(clear)
(there will be about 2 12V panels and 1 24V panel and i will hook them up in parallel(or more depending if i have room or not)

I would like to know how i would find how many amps or what it would drain out of the battery and how quick that the panels i will make/get can put into the batterys at a time.

Unless you're not planning on going faster than 10mph, I'd use a different motor. I have the 200W version of that motor, and it's such a piece of junk that it gets hot under no load. :/

Actual amp draw is impossible to figure out without either lots of computer modeling or actually building the thing. Plus it'll depend on how fast your going. Peak amp draw is about the only definite, which will depend on what the controller limits it to. Assuming the resistance of the motor is low enough to allow it to draw even that much.

Don't know how fast the panels can recharge the batteries without knowing how much power they put out. And why 2 12V and 1 24V panel?

would it work by taking um...
20 AA batteries (rechargeable) and hooking all up in series
and another 20 doing the same thing.

then hooking them both up into parallel for more amps?

(and how much would the panel's help recharge the battery?

Yes, but AAs don't have much capacity to deliver power (and usually only around 2Ah) unless they're good, expensive ones, and there's always the charging issue with NiMH/NiCd in parallel. What with the exploding and all.

What's your budget for a pack and how much range/runtime do you want? I might be able to scope something out if I know...

Dunno how fast the panels can charge the battery without knowing the power output of the panels.

(if that motor wornt work very well i need a cheep one that my dad will buy me.)
but i only have around \$60

so... I need batteryies that are cheep

Does anyone think this will work and is a idea?

Hmm...\$60 really isn't enough...most would budget around \$400 for even a relatively low powered kart. Even SLAs aren't that cheap.

Best I can suggest is to scrounge around. See if anybody's got any dead UPSs (uninterruptible power supplies). The batteries in them might still be good. Car batteries won't last very long (mebbe a dozen cycles), but would work to get it moving, at least.
