Bent forks - is that dangerous?

Hi All,

I have a new 2008 Zapino. I don't know about yours but my throttle is super touchy. It's great for accelerating on the road, but it's challenging to maneuver around near our house. Anyway, long story short, I managed to accelerate into the side of our house. Ouch. Dumb.

The scooter now drives just a bit funny. It feels like it wants to turn right and as if it might flop down on the left side. The front wheel and handlebars don't seem out of alignment. I'm thinking I might have bent a front fork.

Does that sound likely?

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Also, how serious is this? Can I still drive around or should I get it fixed right away?

Thanks for your help. I'm really enjoying reading all the technical comments on this site.

Re: Bent forks - is that dangerous?

I work on Zapinos. We have one with only 24kms on it that went down hard.
I can drive it, but it feels similiar to what you are experiencing. The
bad news is, I would not recommend driving it. It is an accident looking
for someplace to occur. Personally, I would not try repairing a customer
scooter with this problem. I don't have the facilities or tools to repair.
At the least, if parts were available, I would replace the entire fork asm.

And yes, my personal Zapino throttle is touchey also.

Thanks for the advice, Robert. Alas it's not what I wanted to hear but I still appreciate it.
